One day a florist goes to a barber shop for a haircut. After the cut, he
asks about his bill and the barber replies: 'I'm sorry, I cannot accept
money from you; I'm doing community service this week.' The florist is
pleased and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open his
shop, there is a thank you card, and a dozen roses, waiting for him at his
door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill,
the barber again replies: 'I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I'm
doing community service this week.' The cop is happy and leaves the shop.
Next morning when the barber goes to open up, there is a thank you card,
and a dozen donuts, waiting for him at his door.

Later a Conservative comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay
his bill, the barber again replies: 'I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from
you; I'm doing community service this week.' The Conservative is ver y happy
and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open, there is a
thank you card and a gift certificate for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Later a Liberal comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his
bill, the barber again replies: 'I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you;
I'm doing community service this week.' The Liberal is very happy and
leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there
are a dozen Liberals lined up waiting for a free haircut.

When I worked for a huge engineering company, some of the staunchest Republican engineers would show at any dept that was having a cake or meal. They never passed up free food, even it they had to go to another building for it. They never sprung for any parties either.
(It was normal for engineers to take a subordinate, who did a good job, out for lunch after a deadline was made.)

These guys were some of the more vocal ones, and yes, they were died in the wool Republicans. It was a standing joke about these guys who always talked about hating the goverment giveaways, when they stayed on Goverment jobs, that usually never got built. Welfare for engineers.

The nerd gas was all over that place - I have a life. Some of these guys would come in the day after Valentines day with real long faces. "Who would have thought the wife expected something?"

Engineers are not stupid, some just get lost in a project and don't come up for air.

How hard is it to be an engineer? All ya gotta do is blow that stoopid whistle and stop when the tracks end, right?
