Seeking wisdom and knowledge concerning V&H pipes.
Got this off eBay..was advertised as #V17521. That's what I need for my '01 FatBoy.
This doesn't line up and is a very tight fit even to get ANYWHERE close.
I call V&H 4 times regarding istall..finally to confirm model/part#.
I was told the model# was stamped behind the heat shields.
I found a # ......D185.
First pix shows front heat shield removed.
Anyone recall this pipe.....

Called V&H to ask...they couldn't tell me. They said that series of numbers had been purged from their system.
So now I have to resolve this with the buttmunch that sold it to me.

Dave,
How is it not lining up? At the ports?

If you find out that it won't work for you, but it fits a 2005 FXDi, let me know.

Warren.... won't line up with both sets of studs.
There is really no room for it to come over the foorboard mount and make the ports line up.

Well,
If you are looking to find out "what" it is.........it looks to me to be a "Pro Pipe". I have one on my 02 Fatboy. I also have a VERY tight fit and have to remove the right floorboard to get it off and on. Hope this helps.

I've got a PP on my dyna. Followed the directions to the letter and it was a bear to get on. If you're sure you have the right model for yoru bike, and you're following the directions, ie - I think you put it all together loosely, then fit it up. I found it tough to match up the header pipes to the exhaust flanges. I really had to tug on them. FWIW.

OK....
I'm gonna give it a second try...since it seems to be a tight fit.

I had to do some "remodification" to my floorboard bracket as well in order to get mine on. '05 EG Classic

Dave,
That's why I asked. Most of the one piece pipes/headers requires that you take the floorboard off, at least it makes it easier. If I recall, it goes on better if you swing the rear in a little ahead of the front. I think that I didn't worry about the flanges until the pipes were in the ports.
That D# maybe an old Drag Specialties #
Hit me with a PM and number if ya need to.

Yes, floorboards were off.
The rear floorbard mount may need some grinding on the top...
I should ask Darrell if that's what he was talking about.
Warren, Thanks in advance for the offer of help!

Are you tryin to slip the bracket over the studs on the bottom of frame? If so take out studs and get some 3/8 by 3/4 bolts to mount bracket.....Do you have the instructions, if not than lookHERE (http://www.vanceandhines.com/download/D355IN.pdf)

You shouldn't have to grind anything. It's just catching on the rear mount right, like if you had a 1/4 inch all would be good. If so, loosen the mount and give that a try.
Does it look like the pipes are going to line up on the ports and you just can't get it drop over and behind the floorboard mount?

That's it exactly!

If you hold the pipe and ease the rear in a little ahead of the front, keeping the rear of the header a little higher than the front it can and will drop behind the mount. Try and hold the rear so that it's past the port a little, even if the pipe goes over the upper stud of the rear cylinder.

Thanks, Warren!

i just got my BSS on and they were real tight to do it. i ended up taking the right floor board off and bracket as well as the passenger peg. Was very tight and i scratched up the cylinders pretty good. just took some sand paper and sanded them down cannot even notice it.
the first thing i did was make sure the flanges can be moved left to right wiggled the pipe on then took a big regular screw driver to adjust it and bingo went right in. it was a pita tho.

I had taken my V&H PP on and off a couple of times, and it was really tight. I just put on a SuperTrapp Supermeg. Easiest 2:1 I've ever installed! They ALL should be this clean.

OK.
It's on.
No way to attach front heatshields.
No clearance at bottom of floorboard mount.

This thing sounds like it grew a new set of balls!
MONSTER sound compared to the StraightShots.
I don't think this is the right model pipe.

Dave,
You get squared away? I would space the floorboard mounts away from the frame to get clearance for the pipe and shields.

Got a PayPal dispute goin'...
The guy finally relented....he's gonna refund everything....
Now he's sayin' it's for a Dyna and was grafted onto the bike he took it off of....
Too bad I got pix of how the correct pipe should fit.
I just learned a lesson about used parts and eBay!
and a thumbs up for easten performance on ebay, have bought 3 sets of pipes from them and a power commander and some other misc stuff, all new in the box with great prices and fast shipping,,,, no they did not pay me to say that !!!
