Meet half way near the Continental Divide you can take a leak on his water shed and he can do the same on yours and then you can both ride the Rockies as far north as you can and then south as far as you can.

I love epic rides. I just missed one with my best wing man. 2400 miles total in four days. I couldn't leave the wife and baby for four days. My Mom was going to come into town but the trip got moved up and the dates no longer worked. He went solo.

Whatever y'all decide, you will have a blast.

The wife is comming with to ES.She doesn't have enough vacation to do the 2 week ER with us.If I could take 3 weeks in a row off I could put her on a plane back to Chicago and head out to Vegas from ES.Way too many variations availble for this ride!.dj

It was an old tradition when I was a kid when we would cross the Divide.

As far north as Glacier National Park hitting Yellowstone Park and the Rocky Mountain Park in Colorado and south to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Usually everyone goes east to west on road trips but my dream trip would be to do a north to south ride some time.

Road Trip Planner :verycool:

Example start in Santa Fe, NM to Columbia Falls, MT

Put stops in route like Leadville, CO and Jackson, WY or the route planner will run you up the Interstates.

I guess I should also ask if any members are interested in participating on such an adventure.dj

Now this sounds like fun. But I don't think I could clear it with my best wing woman....:badmood:

I got mine this summer. Next year she gets to go.

What is the route you have picked out?

You have a place to stay in Montana if you end up here.

Kinda thinking, and granted this is all very preliminary, based on the whole Chicago/Vegas logistics.
1:Piggy back onto the DC 43 week in ES.Which would mean taking 3 weeks off in a row from work. One week for ES,then 2 weeks for "The Ride".I could fly Mary home from there then head over to Vegas from ES.
2:Have my Vegas Bro head over to ES and ride w/us that week then go from there for another week or two.
3:What I'm starting to think is keep ES week separate, because Doof Babe Mary is going with on that trip(she doesn't have enough vacation for "The Ride"),in early July ship the bike from Chicago to Vegas and fly down.Start out north from Vegas to US50.Ride The loneliest Highway across Nevada to Tahoe. Then on to San Fransisco,up the Pacific Coast Highway into Washington state, east to Glacier NP,and follow Jams suggestion to follow the Continental Divide south thru the Rockies.
Like I said,it's all still in the preliminary planning stages.dj

I would recommend I-15 North from Vegas to Hwy 93 to "The ExtraTerrestrial Highway 375" :Desert_Comm: and the Alien-Inn to Hwy 6 to Hwy 50 near Ely, Nevada.
Nevada is a beautiful state and has a lot of empty country away from the interstates.

The dates are set:Sept 6 to 21.That will give us 16 full days to do this.
I'm going to ship my bike to Vegas.I'll fly in Friday evening Sept 5.Spend Saturday loading up and doing final prep, hit the road Sunday the 7th.
Starting route is to head north out of Vegas to US50.Run 50 across Nevada into Tahoe, down to Yosemite, then over to San Fran.North on the PCH up to Seattle.East to Glacier NP,south thru Yellowstone,Grand Tetons and into Colorado.
We will be doing some camping as well as hotels.
I am definitely going to put that 6 speed trans in Traveler this spring before the ES trip in June.dj

You can poke at FeButte with a :Poke: stick when you go through Bridgeport, Ca.

Hwy 50 is not all what folks think it will be. Beautiful empty country but 40-80 mile valley floors covered with sage brush to the next pass over a mountain range to the next 40-80 mile empty valley.
But if you still want to do it, another way would be to go north to St George, Utah through the Virgin River :brows: canyon and see Zion National park and then head towards Cedar City and Pioche, Nv to Ely, Nv and Hwy 50 to Reno.

Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Cody WY (gotta do the Cody Rodeo) and back through the Little Big Horn. Won't fill the whole two weeks but would be a nice segment.

Just a suggestion to pick up a few 43's.

Start in Las Vegas. 15 SW into Barstow. 58 W thru Bakersfield to CA43. S to 5. Stay on 5 S till you get to 166. 166 W to Santa Maria. Here you can jump on the Pacific Coast Highway 1 N. 1 turns into 101 north of Fort Bragg. 101 N into Oregon. Past Lincoln City take 18 E till you get to 5. 5 N into Tigard till you get to OR43 Go north upto 84 E follow the Columbia river. Stay on 84 E into Idaho. Then 86 E to 15 N into Idaho Falls. ID43 is somewhere east of Idaho Falls. Back to 15 N into Montana. Stop at Continental Divide for piss break. Off of 15 N you'll get MT43 Go north to 90 E. This will bring you thru Wyoming and into South Dakota. You have to see Sturgis, even if the rally isn't going on. It still has some great riding in the area. Back track on 90 so that you can get on 85 S thru Wyoming. 85 S will bring you into Colorado. Once you get to Greeley, take 34 W. Get Larimer County road CO43. Get onto 36 twords Denver, then 70 E into Kansas. KS43 is off of I70 before Junction City. There's a couple different ways to go from here. North into Minnesota for MN43 then east for the I43 in Wisconsin. South into Illinois for IL43. Head east into Indiana IN43, then Ohio OH43......
