Told me $100, after sending $2200 I though was to much.
I got needle bearing remover, installer, and oil pins total OTD from Georges, $156. Don't have to pay shipping to,ship them back.
I borrwed ring spreader, ring compressor and dial indicator from guy at work.
If I had to do it again, I would have paid GMR to press the cams in and put the pistons in. I did the first time, now I see how it works.
I got an Indie to press my cams for $16, after I bought them elsewhere. Next I may go with indie, buy portion from him, I don't like asking people to work on stuff I bought from somebody else.
The one tool I wish I had would be the circlip installer, that was a PIA.
Sounds a little geeky but I would probably jsut practice experiment on old pistons on installing the circlip. Some guys have luck with dental tool, I didn't have one.
I did practice intall rings and installing pistons, on my old ones.
I had a ring come out of piston, after getting wrist pin, lift to high. Used a hose clamp around pistong to get it back in.

I would consdier buying, once you get used to the power you will not want to go with out it. You won't settle for a stock bike again. I am thinking about 2nd bike, full dresser next year or two. I know I won't be able to go back 88.
Not to mention you may be able to pick up a case of beer or bottle from a buddy here and there, when they do there builds.

Did you put the pistons in the bore and then try to install piston to rod?
I found that a total pain and bailed on that in just a couple of minutes. I then installed the pistons on the rod, compressed the rings and then gave the jugs a tap with a rubber mallet, used a piece of wood to bridge the jugs to get a center hit. This way was a snap for me.

I put the pistons into the cylinders first. Was pain. Little tricky get rear cylinder in place had to put the piston into the jug and then pullout. Of course I pulled the piston to far out.
After getting the wrist pins in, I lifted the cylidner to high and bottom ring came out. I used hose clamp and got it back in.
The HD manual says to put them on the rods first.

Maybe could take some plastic plumber strap and go from top to bottom on cylinder with enough slack, to let piston come down, but to far down. If you were to put the pistons in cylidners first. Need somethign strong enough, that would not break and fall in. I filled the holes with that white packign sheets you get, sort of foamy. Saved me.
Probably easier ot just be careful, and not pull the piston out.

Thats a shame, it always seems like a couple cone head screw things up for the many honest folks out there. I don't blame you for saying uncle, sometimes it just isn't worth it trying to be a nice guy.
