First off I'd like to thank Megaglide, Duhast, Cruzer and Homesick for helping me find the strength to face my inner demons and accept the fact that I was born a Doof wannabe and now I can put down my latte, acknowledge the innate beauty of this lifestyle and hopefully join the ranks of the Doofs.
This actually started back in mid 2006 when I was new to the VTF and I saw these posts from people claiming to know the true nature of power and how to wrench more from their bikes. They were the followers of the esoteric ways of Doof Clena. I am a simple caveman and had no idea what they were talking about so I went back to re-jetting my carbs. But I laughed everytime I read something from one of the Doofs. Especially that Lady Godiva. :boobies: Hubba Hubba!
So fast forward to the present (yes I hear you, "Shut up CJ. Yer not even a prospect yet and yer already boring me!" I'll take care of the application here in a minute).
I leave my home, my family and find myself thousands of miles from home courtesy of Uncle Sam and the US Air Force unable to keep in touch with my friends of the VTF. But eventually I return online only to find the grim signs of ethnic cleansing in my own virtual world. :badmood: I find posts from people decrying that most humble and jocular of tribes - The Doof Clena. But then when all seemed darkest I find a few brave souls who show me the way to true wisdom, horsepower and brotherhood "www.doofclenas.com".
Okay, my buzz is just about gone. Standby while I break out the scotch.

1. State your intent (Prospect, Hangaround, Friend or Foe) pick only one.
- Prospect. (Thank you sir... may I have another!!!)

4. State you intended moniker (asshat, cat collector, Gazinta squad, etc.)
- I am Maximus Doofus Meridius, commander of the Doofs of the North, General of the Felix Doofs, follower of the true motorcycle brotherhood Marcus Doofus Aurealius, friend of a badgered poster and brother to an oppressed tribe. And I will have my vengance in this thread or the next! But if that's too long CptCeeJay will do.
5. If you have selected Prospect, you must add "Doof" or "43" in some way to your Avator OR Avatar Line OR Signature Line.... NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
- Duh

3. If you have selected Prospect, the exalted one may decide to ask a Doof member in good standing to Sponsor you... good luck... we mostly don't want to be bothered.
- Megaglide? DuHast? Cruzer? Homesick? Anybody? Help?!

11. Once a Sponsor has volunteered to take your sorry ass on, you must do the following: Ride to a state highway 43... any state, any highway 43... and take a photo of your bike with the highway 43 sign. Post it in the appropriate thread. No state highway 43 nearby... not our problem.
- You bastards. I'm Freakin' 5,000 miles away from my bike!!! I don't even know if Alaska has 43 roads in it. But fear not. I will damn well not be bested by the likes of you! I will find a way and I will do it better than anyone else has before! Or I'll photoshop it...
I think I've sniveled enough.:beatdeadhorse:
On behalf of a grateful nation, those who are about die - salute you!

We have been busy here the last few weeks. So much so I have not had the time to keep up with the VTF. Tonight I spent sometime reading up on what has really been going on there. I saw your post and how you spoke up ' damn the torpedoes' in some of the threads. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for your service to our country.

You are most welcome here and when it comes to a sponsor, you have a lead off starting line up of members to get you started.

You are welcome here, friend.

Welcome to the DooF Forum.

Your application essay of 750 words is over the 300 word limit.

A doof can only process 7 chunks, plus or minus two chunks.

I will need to break it up into digestible sections to be able to process all those words.

I thank you for your service to Our Nation.

I congratulate you on your motorcycle and recent choice to venture down into the basement of DooF

Damn! I get a bit exciteable sometimes and miss a detail or too...
With all due seriousness and gravitas (I didn't even know what that word meant until Obama started running for prez and now every talking head is saying he's got it - now I'm trying for gravitas. Yeeahaaaa! Again I digress...)
I hearby thank  SWMNKDINTHERVR for his sage counsel and Jedi guidance as I dabble in the black art of Doof Clena.
As for the rest of you Doofs - Wow! I never figured I'd have such a great reception.
P O P E Y E - your name comes up from my first days at VTF. It's great to hear from you again!
Big Al - Having been in the military for over a decade now AND just having had a son (Turns a year old this week!) I have a newfound understanding of a parent's concern for their son/daughter who is in harm's way. Your son is in my prayers.
Moose - Strength and Honor to you as well!
Chickenman - Fly boy??? Indeed - life's better at 30,000 feet. I tried the Army first back in 85. Green's not my color. So I switched to Blue.
Geno, 71BaldBoy, Racindude thanks for backin' me!
BTW - BaldBoy - I've been to Australia. Great place! Ran with the hashers in Sydney, stayed overnight with some folks I'd just met in a small town outside Hunter Valley, went horseback riding in the bush, got drunk in the Hunter valley vineyards- made great friends outta strangers! AU rocks!
Well hell, I thought I'd be assigned a sponsor but I guess I gotta pick one.
CDouthitt - Clint since you were the first to offer would you do the honors?
That's about it for me. Time to go to work.

Hey Cap............glad you made it over. I see you've met some of my distinguished Brothers; a fine and doofy lot they are. It already looks like you have found a sponsor and Clint will mentor you well. I was going to take on that responsibility if no one stepped forward, but I guess this is better in the long run; it might not look right having an Officer washing an Enlisted man's bike and bringing him beer.

As said before........thanks for all you do for this great nation:patriot:

Hey gents!
All in all I was unpleasantly surprised when I got back to find a Doof "beat down" had occured at VTF. Then I found myself reading thread after thread like: "R.U.B. versus Real Biker!" or "You suck and here's why". I know there are still good folks there and will still check in from time to time but DCMC has the kind of interaction I was lookin for in the first place.
With mixed feelings I'm looking to my impending move back to the Lower 48 this fall. Chances are I'll end up at Barksdale AFB, Shreveport LA (8th Air Force HQ for all you military types) or back to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City OK (the epicenter of all things AWACS - my chosen airframe).
So the mixed feelings are:
A) Damn! I love Alaska. Great hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, touring...
B) Yeah! I'll be back near my bros in the OKC, NM, IL area. I can get back to roadtripping (one year-old son permitting) and maybe ride out to meet some Doofs!
We'll see how it plays out.
First off to do rk custom - Verbose? Me? Yeah, you might say I find the saound of my own voice soothing in the same way a puppy finds a ticking clock soothing in the night... AND as soon as my next batch of homebrew is done I'll bring you all the beer you can handle! Hope you like stout beer.
Clint - Thanks for sponsoring me. All the beer you want is on me (so to speak). Each batch I brew fills a 5 gallon keg and it's tasty! As far as washing yer bike... if you're a loyal Doof why do you have gAZINTa dust all over it?
FXDRYDR - Adak?! Damn! That IS the end of the Earth! But you know the beauty of Alaska of which I speak.
wibiker - You too know what I'm talking about! You were there back in the day though! Wow I can't imagine how TRULY different a culture it was back then. You've got my respect.
DeeJay - Thanks for the offer. We'll see what I can come up with when I complete the last leg of my journey and get to my home in AK.
Cruzer - As for me washing some enlisted guys bike... dude I was raised by an old school Chief. Most of the really valueable lessons I have learned have been from senior NCOs! You are the backbone of the military regardless of branch!
thedog - That was a good picture of some AK fishin. Was that down on the Kenai near Ninilchik? As far as Ironheads? No - my Sportster knee has healed and my Ironhead days are done. I like having a bike I know will start every time and will get me home every time. gZINTa huh... I need to find out more about this mysterious arch-nemisis of the DC.
Polarbear - Thank you sir.I look forward to hanging out in the basement for a while.
Goderator - Are you in the military and would Thumb Correctional happpen to be Thumrait?
Scabbydoo - Thank you much. I like the insanity here. It's my favorite flavor!
Gents I realize it may seem a bit weird to try to include everyone in my posts but I was raised to look a man in the eye and shake his hand firmly when I met him. Well I can't do that here so I like to acknowledge everyone when they talk to me. Yes I'm old-fashioned. I like it that way and ain't changin'. Of course I was also raised to not to be a motor mouth... Sorry Dad - I try.
Anyway. Take care dudes.
See you in the forum soon.

Beer Good...Stout Beer...Even Better...Home Brew...we'll see if it lives up to my brother-in-law's. He's got essentially a micro brewery in is basement. You just might need to send me a sample (or six) so I can give you my honest opinion

As far as the gAZINTa dust goes, that's because Wibiker keeps on leaving the damn door unlocked to my shop after he washes my ride...the those freakin' gAZINTa fairies keep on sneakin' in and sprinklin' their pixie, er gAZINTa dust all over the shop...they're bastages I tell you...sneaky bastages. Either that, or it's because I store it in my woodshop during the LONG, LONG winter. Naah, it's WiBiker's fault.

Kenai River, yes, west of Coopers Landing, a bit downstream of the Russian River. Rafted and canoed in, camped three days last year, two days the year before .. way cool. I still have five or eight Russian River reds in the freezer. Catching them is almost as big a blast as being a GazintA.

Fourstar - I try sir... I try.

Lady G - Thanks! That picture was taken along the Seward highway south of Anchorage. Just another day of riding in paradise. And as for your sig picture ... I never thought I'd be jealous of an alligator.
Homesick - I'm down at Elmendorf AFB/Anchorage. And yes - My wife and I spend as much time as possible in the mountains. Good to hear Barksdale is a beautiful base. And I've already served four plus years at Tinker in OKC so I know it well.
Firetronix01 - Since we last talked at VTF I've had a newborn son and been deplyed for four months so I haven't added anything new to Betty in a while. However comma I have some surplus cash coming back home and am going to add bits and pieces when I finally reach AK. When I do I will post some pics for sure.
8Ball - Glad to see you here! Thank you for modifying my avatar on the VTF side. Unfortunately it got lost in the shuffle in the last year and I can't find it any more. Is it possible to share with us cavemen how you took a picture of my airplane and made it a moving picture of my airplane or is it clearly way above my simple mind's comprehension??? And - you and Gordito's avatars look like they come from the same day of shooting. Am I right?
Gordito - Looks like we'll have to compare gun lockers someday (actually I'm sure you'd win but I'll always chat about guns and the second amendment...)
Thanks,
See ya around the forum.
