View Full Version : Upgrading suspension and stuff...

Well... I'm upgrading my 03 Super Glide's suspension by going to Works shocks and Race Tech gold emulators. I'm expecting great things. The shocks are their top of the line models that allow for easily stiffening the settings by hand. I can't wait.
I'm pulling the trigger on a good set of detachable saddle bags, going to a chrome triple tree and installing a zerk in the neck while I'm there. Finally, I'm addressing a noise that I'm hoping is just a lifter...
Tired of winter. Getting ready to attend some doof gatherings and ain't wasting no time.

Well, I thought I'd possibly start a technical discussion, or elicit comments about other upgrades doofs are doing over the winter... but that ain't happening, so... Okay, I was fooling.
I'm not doing anything at all. I sold the bike at a loss and got a snowmobile. Come summer, I'll sell the snowmobile at a loss and buy another bike. By the time I have zero equity, I'll bump down to a snowblower and a bicycle. By then I'll be real old anyway.

Snowmobile was my first choice over a motorcycle....but I like the AP better in the leather than a down parka.

I discussed new mods here (http://www.doofclenas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172&highlight=finally).

Some good mods you have planned.
I had the Race Tech stuff put into the forks on the FLSTCI that I had, but I probably only logged about 100 miles on the changes before I got the Road Glide. I sold the softail shortly after that.
Seahag, is also doing some suspension mods. He may wander by later and chime in with his two cents on what you are doing.

Hmmm... I'll watch for Seahag. Our builds are similar, only I have a "43" timing cover.

That's where I got the idea to go minimalist and bump down to a bicycle. I'm thinking something well-used, with no fenders. Who needs 'em anyway?

I've heard great things about WORKS SHOCKS from others that have them installed.
When I had my FXDWG, I installed PROGRESSIVE 418 shocks and really liked how the performed on that bike compared to the OEM shocks. I went with the 11.5" shocks which are 1" lower than the OEM shocks.
These are PRE-LOAD & REBOUND adjustable, and you can also re-build them if you need to. I had them on the bike for 9 years with no issues.

I've heard good things about the 418s too and for the difference in cost, may reconsider. I'm just looking forward to a tighter, surer feel and am at the point where the OEM stuff has gotten a little warn.

I went with the Progressive 440s thanks to GeezerGlide... what an incredible difference in comfort and performance. I liked them so much that I just installed their fork springs. Can't ride until Friday though.
I've got the 12" on my '05 RK Custom...
