New Server Again...

Well, boys and girls, I'm just not happy with our present server (our third). I find it sluggish and prospects are not good for our continued growth.

I'm also hesitant to add the photo software until I'm happy with the server performance.

We will be moving soon to hostgator.com, in fact the temporary domain is already up and I'm moving stuff to it now.

Next week I'll close the forum down in the dead of night and switch over to it. I'll let you know when, and then I'll put up a temporary link until the DNS points to the new server.... I'm hoping for 6 hour down time or less.

I don't recommend the following servers to anyone:
ixwebhosting.com
powweb.com
1and1.com

Geez... <scuffin' a rock with my shoe> I wasn't looking for kudos, but I do appreciate the kind words. Just trying to let you folks know that it is going to get better.

Clint... We are number three on that list. There is more to it than bandwidth and storage. I'm learning that these sites don't need what the overly promised servers are offering (kind of a marketing hype). It is more about customer service, features, server side software, structure, controls, ease of use, etc. I ran a ping on our current server and it was returning around 100. Anything over 90 is shlt slow and anything under 80 is considered very fast. The ping rate on some of the top rated sites is around 70 and our new site is running around 40. The best I've seen is 23. I think we are going to be happy.

Laurie.... you can be my server anytime!!!... oh, and you will be happy to know that our new server is "hostgator"...

Okay... we are up on the new server. All I need to do now is turn the forum off, downoad the database, upload it to the new server, have them populate the database over there, and turn it back on. Hopefully, that should take an hour.

I'll wait until tonight or sometime over the weekend to do it when most everyone is sleeping.

When you go to log onto the site, you may see a temporary redirect link. If you do, just click it and it will take you to the new server. It will then just disappear when the DNS gets redirected to the new server. Don't change your bookmarks during this time... it will end up being the same as it is now.

The new site will be hosted by bluehost.com and I've tested it out already with a backup of the forum from a few days ago. It is much faster, at least from here anyway... and lets face it, that is all I really care about.
