I just picked up a laptop made by ASUS. It has a Linix OS. I'm still playing around with it. I can take the memory card from my digital camera, and put it straight into the laptop, but I'm not sure how to resize the images. I'm going to test it out, and see if it'll upload the image.

Google up SIR (Simple Image Resizer) or ImageMagick. Those are both good Linux based programs for image resizing.

I think it worked. Had to plug mouse into it, but it works.

Now I can take pictures, and upload them from the comfort of the sidecar. :roflback:

It's a very compact laptop with a usable qwerty keyboard. Packs away easly, and doesn't take up muck space in your bags. You can take the SD card out of your digital camera, and plug it right into the laptop, to upload images right to your favorite motorcycle forum. The battery is kind of small, so bring a charger with you. Mike even figured out a way to charge it from your bike, by using a car charger and adaptor. The one I picked up has Linix OS, you can get one with Windows XP, but that uses up more space on the hard drive. Mine is the basic model. It has wi-fi internet access, but you'd have to get an ATT wireless account to use their hot spots. I have wireless setup at home, and the ASUS laptop can pick up the signal from any room in the house and outside. If any of your neighbors have an unsecured network, you could even surf the web from their front yard too. :roflback:

Agree 110%! It also is one of the most affordable and reliable (according to reviews) ultra-portable laptops you can get. I've always used ASUS motherboards for all of my personal PC builds and have yet to have one fail.

I have friends that have bought some of the Sony ultra-portables and paid well over $1K....you can get this one for around $300 and it is rock solid. All that it needs out of the box to be well rounded machine is 512M of memory to give the 900M Celeron CPU a little help :DD

Hey! I just bought one of those last night, too! I ordered one with XP on it though since I'm already familiar with that OS. I'm hoping to get it in time for E.S.!

What do you mean you have to have an AT&T wireless account to use it in WiFi hotspots??

If you have AT&T for your home Internet provider, you can use WiFi for free at approximately 17,000 hot spots across the country. That is mostly comprised of Starbucks, McDonalds, Barnes & Nobles, etc. AT&T WiFi Coverage Map (http://attwifi.know-where.com/attwifi/cgi/index?design=default)

You can still use AT&T's WiFi service by purchasing access if you do not have your home or Business Internet through us.

This is for WiFi though, not using your cell phone as a wireless or tethered modem like we discussed. If Ray at CMI is installing DSL to make a WiFi hot spot at the hotel as discussed in another thread, you wouldn't need anything to access it other than the SSID and/or password that he would provide.

I did not know that. Thanks!

Happy to share the info :D If you are a DSL or U-verse subscriber, you can also get our WiFi Premier service that has over 71,000 hot spots across the country for $9.95 a month ($19.95 monthly for non-subscribers). Really good for folks that travel a lot.

Comcast is my internet provider at home.

But I don't have a wireless router hooked up right now. Had one but didn't know how to secure it, and somehow another computer was using my wireless network using MY SAME IP address so it wouldn't let me back online. So I unhooked the whole dang thing. Now I've got to bribe a neighbor to come set up the router for me so I can use the laptops.

Still waiting to get a new cell phone. AT&T says I have to wait another 2 weeks.
