I have a Gateway GT4024, and the drawer for the disc won't open.
When I push the button, it makes the noise like it is opening, but
it doesn't open. Any suggestions, besides a BFH?
It is just over 2 years old, so warranty is out of the picture.
Thanks...........dzlfitr

look for the little tiny hole and shove a paper clip in while you try to open it, it should pop open.

You're not going to believe this, but we just had the same problem! Our Gateway was about 2 1/2 or 3 years old, and the CD drawer stopped coming open. The only solution we had was to keep fussing with the button, I even pried on the door to make it pop open. Didn't always work. So..... we FINALLY went for the ultimate solution. We bought Mac's.

Those drives aren't too tough to change.
Ever been inside a computer?

Yup. Straighten out a paper clip, look for a hole under the drawer about the size of that paper clip, and slowly and firmly insert the paper clip. You will feel it meet resistance out a little ways in, keep pushing, it will move slowly and the drawer will start coming out. Spend $25 and get a new optical drive of your choosing. 2-3 cords and 2-4 screws is all it takes. Simpler than changing your oil.

Got it open. Had to use paperclip every time.
O.K. Ed, what do I need? Never been into a computer before, don't know
what pieces to get, let alone what to ask for. How do I get into this thing???
Let me know and I'll get parts Sunday(going into town then).
