I told her too NO CUTTING ON THE TATTOO !!!!!!!
so what is that, er, WAS that ?
basil cell carcinoma
before I went in there yesterday, it was a round spot about the size of a pencil eraser ..... but the underlaying tissue had cancer so they take all that, plus a 'margin area' to ensure that they got it all ....
I have one above my right eye and right cheek ... those two come out/off on Jan. 30 09 :badmood:
Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer. It is the most common of all types of skin cancers. About 3 out of 10 caucasians can expect to develop a basal cell cancer in their lifetime in the United States.[1] It is a malignant epithelial cell tumor that begins as a papule (a small, circumscribed, solid elevation of the skin) and enlarges peripherally, developing into a crater that erodes, crusts and bleeds. Metastasis is rare, but local invasion destroys underlying and adjacent tissue. In 80 percent of all cases, basal cell cancers are found on the head and neck[2]. There appear to be an increase in incidence of basal cell cancer in the trunk in recent years.[3] It can be destructive and disfiguring. The risk of skin cancer is related to the amount of sun exposure and pigmentation in the skin. The longer the exposure to the sun and the lighter the skin, the greater the risk of skin cancer. There are three types of BCC: The most common type of basal cell carcinoma is nodular basal cell carcinoma, a flesh-colored (cream to pink), round or oval translucent nodule with overlying small blood vessels and a pearly-appearing rolled border. The second type of BCC is the pigmented lesion. This is darker than the nodular type, appearing blue, brown or black. It may be similar in appearance to the very aggressive malignant melanoma tumor. It is very important to distinguish between malignant melanomas and pigmented BCC. A third type of BCC is the superficial type, which appears as red, and often scaly, localized plaque. It is frequently confused with psoriasis or eczema. Basal cell skin cancer almost never spreads; however, large and longstanding tumours may metastasize into regional lymph nodes and surrounding areas such as nearby tissues and bone.

HOLY CRAP! That looks really ugly and scary.... I'm glad you went in and they found them!
Thank you for the information. I've had some small spots on me that I need to get looked at, but for some reason it's one of those things I keep putting off because it's not causing an immediate problem.
Stoopid humans - why do we think that way when it comes to something as serious as skin cancer?
Please take care and let us know how everything goes with the other two.

here's before .... look just below the buffalo's feet, you see that lil pink spot .... then when they cut into it, it was deep and wide, as seen by the pic with the stitches.
so, just cause you have a 'LITTLE' spot on the surface, it is not to be taken as the extent of the cancer. I have to tell you, I was very SHOCKED :yikes: when I saw how big the incision was, considering how small the area was on the surface.
I'm a bit more nervous now about the one on my forehead, which is larger on the surface than this was. By about twice
Depending on how that comes out, I might have to come up with a new handle :roflback::roflback:
maybe I can ask them to take out a few wrinkles while there busy cutting me .......... I mean, why not ...

Mine wasn't a problem either, they don't hurt, but, as I've found out, can really cause a mess of things if you let them go !!

Hey Mikey, did you just go to the doctor or did you have to go to the dermas office to be checked for skin cancer??

Hey Mikey, did you just go to the doctor or did you have to go to the dermas office to be checked for skin cancer??
I never mentioned it to my doctor. I went to the dermatologists because the one on my forehead bleeds from time to time. So I thought I needed to see a skin specialist to figure out what it was. She then found the other one on my cheek and arm. I never paid any attention to the one on my arm, heck, it was just a tiny pink spot..... who would have ever thought that it'd take 17 stitches to sew up the incision that was required to cut out the cancer from a tiny dot ??
Kinda scary in a way ......
so, you peps out there that have a strange spot on your skin, you should consider getting some professional to have a look at it.
