Well after being half-frozen Tuesday night, I came to a decision. I really enjoyed the ride up and back from Bethlehem, but the cold just about killed me. What was worse, I was sweating my ass off all day with all the layers I was wearing, then the sweat did what sweat does....Cooled me off once the wind hit me.
Now I've gotta say that the combination of Under Armour, fleece jeans, and chaps did an excellent job up to about the last hour or so, as did a sweatshirt and my Fox Creek jacket. But the wind got in through the seams and vents, and my hands and feet were miserable.
Since I refuse to get a windshield, much less buy a bagger, heated gear is called for.
Based on Bob's (Thorns) recommendation, I went to Bob's BMW in Jessup, MD to look for the Gerbings stuff that Mike (MBKodiak) was raving about. They're having a 20% off end-of-season sale, so I stocked up. Jacket & pants liners, dual controller, and gloves. I'm gonna go back today to see if they've got socks. I was sort of hoping for overpants rather than the liner, but it's sized so that I can get them on over my jeans and under my chaps.
They've got a ton more there, so if you're looking for heated stuff, take the ride.
The look on the salesman's face when I told him what I rode was priceless. When I said "Harley", he assumed "Ultra". I had to show him a picture (which I'm geeky enough to have on my cell phone) to make him understand what I was talking about.

Good deal Russ. Bet you can't wait for winter to come back so you can try the stuff out. :Poke:

I rode this morning, was about 42 when I left the house. Sweatshirt weather :roflback:

Guilford Road. You can see it from 32 between Rt.1 and the BW Parkway. They've got a really nice selection of helmets and other gear. No attitude from the salespeople either (which I expected).

Believe me, I can wait until next year to use the stuff. But it's nice to know that I can now ride year 'round without resorting to a windshield or a touring bike.

Looks like I will stop by on my way home. That's about 5 mins down the road from work..... and I am on the scoot, so it's almost appropriate

20% off, Damn. We just might have to ride up there. Patti doesn't have gloves or socks. She usually rides with her light gloves and keeps them in her jacket pockets. Engine/exhaust pipes keep some heat by her feet so they don't get cold.
I knew it wouldn't be long Russ. :whistling:
I just looked at their web site. Don't show socks, but they do show a new heated boot pad.. Looks interesting. When I wear the heated socks, I can feel the heat elements under my foot.

20% off...sweet!
I have the socks, worn them once. They're toasty, but I didn't care for the wires on the bottom...
They (Gerbings) have heated insoles - saw them at the Timonium show...:hmm2:
What time youse guys going?

Well, at least you're not one of those that have to "disconnect" before you step off the scoot.
I just love it whey they forget and step off and start to walk away :roflback:

Gerbing also sells direct through an outlet store. During the warmer months they have a lot in stock. They use to close it during cold season. Not sure what they do now. I got my stuff there.
http://heatedclothingoutlet.com/
Really good prices. Sizing varies with the season and they are always updating inventory. When I ordered, I called them. They will check around to see if they have sizes available that might not be listed on the site. Great people to deal with.
If you jacket liner is not wired for a dual controller (meaning you can't control the temp of separate items), you could probably send it to them to have it wired correctly. This was an option for me.

FYI: Gerbings is no longer making socks, they're only doing heated insoles now. I just found a pair of socks in my size and mail ordered them.
So I'm ready for my next winter trip to JD's.

So I've taken to riding into work when I can. 42 miles on the DC Beltway and I-95; massively unpleasant, but I've got an awesome 105 mile backroad route home that makes it worthwhile. Last Friday, yesterday and today so far. Yesterday morning it was in the high 40s, the high was supposed to be in the low 60s. Unfortunately it was windy as hell, and never really warmed up. Like a fool, I didn't think I'd need the plug-in stuff, so I went with leathers and layers. Needless to say, I was colder than I wanted to be.
So today it was 38 when I left the house. Jeans, t-shirt & short-sleeved polo, Gerbings overpants, jacket liner, and gloves, a River Road balaclava, 3/4 helmet, and my Fox Creek jacket.
I never turned the damn things on. Oh my God these things are warm. I probably could have clicked them on for a bit to warm my fingers up, but they really never got that cold.
Big thumbs up, I've just extended my riding season that much more.

I think mine are finally put away for the season. I can't ride my bike to work anyway, so after work or on the few and far between day off is the only time I'll get to ride for a while.
