started collecting these about 8 or 9 years ago...

- first was the 4 dimensional cube

- next the pack of wolves that watches my back

- then the peace symbol ripped violently into the skin

- most recently a memorial for my uncle -- he live a hard life

All are originals and have deep meaning for me personally. I'm just finishing the concepts for the next two that will go on the rest of my back and my rigth should/arm. I've got a first meeting with an artist in Richmond, VA the Thursday after Mem. day so he can start the drawings.

Cool artwork. The personal meanings you described tie in nicely with each tat.

If you don't mind saying, whats the meaning of the cube. 1st thought was incarceration, but not sure why multi sided. Then maybe thought 4 people, such as family. Probably way off.

no problem -- but it may require moving this to R&P. Just sayin'...

Oh ... and here, this might help. :ScaBogart:

Art was from cover of the book Geomoetry, Relativity, and the 4th Dimension (http://www.amazon.com/Geometry-Relativity-Fourth-Dimension-Rudolf/dp/0486234002/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242315942&sr=8-1). I opted for less busy outline version without colors. This book was a sort of homage to the earlier book, "Flatland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatland)," written in 1884. A biting satirical critique of prudish victorian culture and the church in that age.

In Flatland, "A. Square" was the main character who discovered that he did not live in a flat two dimensional world but, in fact, lived on the seemingly flat surface of a very large 3 dimensional sphere - sound familiar? As a two dimensional being he could not readily perceive 3D reality, but had to infer it from the strange experiences he had. A. Square was harshly shunned by his community for refusing to be quiet about his discoveries of truth about reality vs. the popular religious orthodoxy of the day.

The 4th dimension book left out the social satire, but made the point that we are three dimensional beings living in a multidimensional reality and are simply not physically capable of perceiving physical reall that is around us. The author was writing from purely scientific perspective, but I was more than happy to add back my own satirical interpretations given my work in an essentially religious context.

I got the tat as a reminder that there's always more going on around me that I am capable of knowing, and that the collective human inability to know everything about anything means there will surely always be a gap between the truth about reality and the various orthodoxies we construct to make sense of our world and our lives in it.

...the back stories on the others are all a bit shorter, but that's as short as I can get this one -- you asked! :D

Tattoos are always WAYYYYY cooler when they have personal meaning.
Its something that you get that is YOURs and YOURS alone.

Some folks spend thousands on art to hang in their home....

I take me art with me.

Also, saw this on a t-shirt recently.....

"Yes I'm tattooed, NO I dont want to see your Butterfly"

Nice work. I like the wolfpack especially. They are pretty addicting once you start. I have had two in two years. I have my third in concept, but won't do another one in the summer. Too limiting on outdoor activities and I don't want to miss out on boating this year too.
