Is that little ball on the mounts all the same size?

No. 1" seems to be the standard, but I have seen 3/4" and 1 1/4".

Since you're doing that, you may as well punch it out to 113" and get a good tune. Don't forget the cams.

I just picked up a Magellan Roadmate 1220, and unless I'm measuring the ball wrong it's 5/8" I just don't trust the suction cup it comes with.

It's ok, you've been working hard or something. You deserve a break.

I was using the suction cup on mine, worked great !!!
Just so happened that I had the GPS IN MY POCKET when Chip and I were doing about 85 heading into Chi Town when I reached across the dash to adjust something and hit the suction cup mount with my hand ...... last time I saw it, it was in about a thousand pieces following me down the 6 lanes into town and loosing ground quickly as the cars drove over them........
no need to tell you the GIANT sigh of relief that I got knowing that for whatever reason I had put the GPS in my pocket WHEW
Upon my return from that trip, I got a RAM mount on the bars, never looked back !!!!

If you're going to ES, consider that Cycle Gadgets is right there. I got my Ram stuff from them.

But I ordered mine a couple weeks ago and had it mailed.
