My computer was givin' me signs, backed up my stuff. Ordered a new 320 gig drive for my data files, had installed an 80 GB a while back and was using it as a secondary program file drive.
Well it finally happened: C drive puked last night. C drive was an 80 gig drive as well, partitioned 12 GB program disk (C), 60 GB data (D).
The 80 will be the new C drive. I have all my old program files backed up on my external drive. I may do fresh installs of everything important.
All my data's on the external, too, which will get copied to the new 320.
Ain't got the coin right now for a new machine and a new larger hard drive is a lot cheaper than the alternative.
Gonna be busy for awhile, I reckon.

Are you still using XP or have you gone to Win7 yet?

Still on XP. XP Pro as a matter of fact.
Processor and motherboard are like four years old. She's a homebuilt. Got an AMD Athlon 64 processor. Asus motherboard. Specifics are unobtainable right now.
Gonna work on it tomorrow. A buddy stopped by for a beer, which turned into half a case. At least. Prolly more.

When you go.....go X58 and Core I7 920. Microcenter has the processor for under $200.00. I love my new system pumping 3.8 Mhz on air with no sweat.

I run multiple hard drives in every computer I build. Saved my bacon more than once.
This machine has 6.

I've had a few computers die on me here recently. Hard drives are fine, but the other hardware has been dying off. I'll be needing to get some updated equipment here before too much longer.

Yeah, the one with the bad hard drive is on it's second motherboard and processor.
The case is like six or seven years old, maybe more, first set lasted three years or so.
Hardware's real cheap, prolly why everything dies so fast.
I dunno, I'll throw some JB Weld and baling wire at this one, keep 'er runnin'.

Well, 99.95% of 'em are.
Didn't backup the new banner, but that can be easily replicated, if'n need be.

Man, I've been messin' with this thing all day.
Still have some software to install.
Got most of the essentials working, including Firefox. Managed to get my bookmarks and password stuff working.
And got my Internet Security stuff activated, too.
Been mostly throwin' crap at the wall, less than half stuck.
Thanks to our resident computer genius, why_me, for helping me recover my lost e-mails and contact lists. Stuff was there, but hidden.
Should be back to normal by the time the new stuff fails.
Gotta tell you, tho. This thing really boots up fast now.
:DD

Glad to get you fixed up!
I need to get back to loading stuff to my new hard drive on my Dell laptop. Sucks when hard drives fail.
