I get this St. Glide and I'm thinking about changes I'd like to make when air cleaners come to mind. So I page through the various touring bike pic threads looking for shots of the S&S teardrop air cleaner.
...didn't find any.
I like the S&S. It has a classic line and I think it would compliment my bike nicely.
What am I missing? Is it junk.....or ugly?

S&S Part # 17-0413 fits 95-03 BTs. I got this out of an older catalog, but I expect they've updated it for newer bikes.

went looking at jpcycles.com websight and couldn't find one from S&S for any EFI applications, only S&S E and G series carbs, stock Keihin and CV carbs, and for L series Tillotson, Bendix and Keihin butterfly carbs. ?

OK, if you love the S&S cover and want a great air filter setup to boot, go to http://www.dohertymachine.com/index.php?cPath=2_27 and have a look. Doherty makes a great setup that uses the clasic S&S cover.
And y'all thought I was just pretty.

not sure... even on Doherty's sight the only ones that specifically say they "use" the S&S Teardrop Cover (and even then don't say they come with it and it doesn't show it with it) are for CV, S&S, and Mukini carb applications.

It looks like you're right.
Could have sworn they used to make it for the Delphi injected bikes, too.
And they don't come w/ the cover. Never did.

I gotta get something done to mine this summer, got pipes, now gotta get aircleaner and SOME type of tuner for the fuel. Probably PC III but cant decide what I should do for the air... probably end up finding the post back at vtwin.com or hdforums where ever it was that detailed putting together your own SE A/C kit. Then have to decide what to do with the covor. The first year the football didnt bother me and never could understand why people complained about their looks... but now I must admit I'm getting rather tired of that big oval air cleaner cover.

I'm sorta' partial to the HD Nostalgic round cover.

sure looks like they say on there they got a/c to fit stock single throat EFI throttle bodies used on 2001 softail and all 2002 and up EFI models
mostly so small that I cant read most of it but made that part out

Thanks, guys.
I do kinda like the round HD a/c.
Mine is EFI.
I was pretty sure S&S made a setup for the '06 EFI (didn't fit the '06 Dyna)....now I'm not so sure. I'll have to double check.
Hey Mega, that Doherty suggestion is much appreciated. I may go that route.
Even if it turns out S&S doesn't offer a kit, Doherty does. But I still wonder...how come I don't see anybody running an S&S? Is it that unpopular?

Gotta agree, the S&S a/c cover is the ducks guts, best looking a/c ever made imo.
My stealer has an efi(i think) kit here they sell with the SPO mufflers and a/c, i'll give them a call for ya.
I know S&S made 'em for the evo M M efi,s.

If you like the simple clean look, I've changed mine over to a zipper air cleaner with Deweys cover.

I wonder if those open K&N style filters have the same issue I had with open K&N's I ran on my last bike? It was a virago, and I did a mod, took off those big chrome bug eye pods, put on dual K&N's. Looked nice... as nice as a virago could look IMHO, but after only a few days the tops of the filters would start "losing" for lack of a better word their oil/red tint. This was whether it rained or not, it would just start gradually turning white, till I removed and reoiled. Do the Zippers and others do that?

I have the open K&N filter on mine. It turns dark, then black after about a week. I think this is because it's sucking in air 360 degrees, not being restricted by the cover. I could be wrong, I have been before!!
I have not had any problems in the rain either, as long as you keep the filter oiled properly, and follow K&N's recommended cleaning/re-oiling procedures.
I'm also looking at the new SE filter setup. I can't dig up the part number right now, but it's the one that comes out and turns 90 degrees to the front, and has the HUGE open filter and sock over it. Know what one I mean? If anyone has any experience with this, will it fit an Ultra with the lowers on? It looks CLOSE!

They aren't supposed to stay reddish... they will go to gray, but they still work. I clean and reoil mine every 5k.

guess I just assumed they stayed redder because only thing I ever ran them on before was my dirt bikes in the past. They stayed red there until the races started and when I got home they were brown. :) The ones on the Virago just seemed to fade straight back to white cotten look.
Doesn't matter anymore really though, its moved on to someone else who really wants a Harley like I did... for them to see how long they can ride it before they break down and say "heck with it, I'm getting what I really want".

Unless you want to spend more for some other feature or for looks, you will be damn hard pressed to beat the HD-0800 type filters. SE, Big Sucker, etc.

The AC cover is a Harley 7" dia cover, P/N 29153-07.
I've since put on an 8" cover, any round cover from an EVO works. I took the brushed stick-on trim ring off it to have the all chrome look.
I have a picture at home.
This size without the trim ring or the Harley center piece, just a big button head screw. (looks a bit like the round Mikuni cover)

I have one of the S&S Air Cleaners that fit the stock Carb or the EFI...
I had it on my injected RG and now have it my Son's FXDWG..
I will post a pic here in a few.. it works great and has a great look..
the only reason that I took it off was I had tried the Geralomy Dual TB...
now back to my stock TB...
Sorry guys didnt know that I was signed under the Babe's logon...KT

I finally settled on the S&S tear drop cleaner on mine. If you have a Delphi, the S&S for CV carb should fit. The bolt pattern is the same as the carb/delphi throttle body. Check with your dealer to make sure.

it is the same but you have to be sure to order the one for the stock HD setup..
But will fit either the carb or EFI, I have one and have used it on both...
by the way it looks really cool.
