View Full Version : 2:1 Exhaust
Why would anyone choose anything other than a 2:1 exhaust for performance?

I do not know Rock, maybe looks. Must be why the Left pipe on you bike makes so much noise.

What's more. I have the flat black paint that I'm going to spray inside of it when the spring comes. It's gonna be a great year. Potato Potato Potato.

I sure as heck don't know. Some things are such a no-brainer....

I'm taking the StrightShots off and going to a V&H Pro-Pipe.
They call it a Pro-Pipe cause that's what the pros use...
They'd know...that's why they're the pros...
In addition. If you get the false left side. You get the looks and the power. Not sure how many companies make a false left side. But the Thunderheaders I have sounds deep in tone and they produce great back pressure. Enough to outrun some true duals with more beefed up engines.

This is not a shot a True Dual fans. Just stating the facts ma'am.

I have to agree with you Stan, my thunderheader rocks-no pun intended. Of course I don't have a falsie, but if I did, it would be black inside. With my new built 95" motor, the rumble dropped down a couple of octives, sounds Badass...
You know what I'm sayin' Geno. Bikes gotta have bass in it's voice. None of that high tin can rattle stuff over here. And what's more. Chicks dig 'back pressure'.

It's not to loud. You can't even play loud music up here but the LEOs let my pipe go. It's not tin can like loud. It's like tuba. And some of the Doofs here rode behind me in Kansas City. However, I have been known to out blip a person or too. I won't name any names. :028:

If you got fuel injection, I can't help ya. I have a carb with a 190 main jet and a thunderslide with the thunderheader. Sounds mean at idle and runs like a raped ape shittin' thunder...

KT,
The T-Header is notorious for overscavenging on the front cylinder, especially with that 570 cam and good heads. (I'm guessing thats the cam you mean, anyway). And especially under 100 cubes. Front to rear cylinder trim will gain you some smoothness at idle and low speed and add a bit of power. Latest PC's, SERTS, TCFI's, and Thundermax all have the capability in the hands of a good tuner. Great pipe, just needs some adjustments to work real well with the EFI.

Well the Cycle Shack slip ons perform better than some 2:1 exhausts and for those that really like the look it is not that much of a sacrifice from the V&H 2:1 exhaust.

Right Genoway, and there are others out there too! The more cubes and the easier it tends to get for GOOD two to two set up.
Always ran the propipe on a 107 that I own and had this bet with a customer back in early fall that I could get within 5 lbs and 5 HP of the propipe with bigshots long (lousy performance pipe, right?), baffle adjustment, and a good tune. Lost 4 lbs of TQ, moved the powerband up around 200 RPM, and gained 4.5 HP. It's all in the timing and tuning, and keeping good charge velocity.... in AND out.

Chicks dig 'back pressure'.
Chicks do not dig 'back pressure' when ya 'let one rip' in bed and decide at that time to fluff up' the sheets/blankets.

GRock,
Yep I am finding all of that out, I have been running a SERT and using a Twin Scan 88 to do some of the tuning and of course paying way to much in dyno fees so I went and got a TCFI II and am waiting for a cable to begin the tuning process.. Cant wait, hope it is there waiting for me today.
I am sure I will be begging for some of your wisdom
KT
Would it be a real bad idea in the performance department to switch my TH out for some V&H short shots???? I'm thinking it would lose a bunch of low end torque???

I just put on the V&H Pro pipe, there was no second choice, i want the power and torque that these systems give the bike, and i think it looks great.

I think I can agree with you on the benefits of a 2 into 1 system, but who in their right mind would admit that their bike sounded like a TUBA?.......................

I don't know what Tuba's sound like in Charlotte. But here, their pretty loud and deep. I like that. Now that I would expect a faringless person to understand. :Poke:

I think that you are right but dont think it is worth very much.. kind of like a pisso:nope:
A fairing is that thing that gets beat to death after your face, teeth, and chest are coverd in Helamonsters and god knows what from a couple back to back long days rides. Your mileage may vary.
