Recently, I get what seems like a lot of tapping when I first start the bike. It seems to subside after abour 30 seconds. I changed the oil about 100 miles ago, but this was occurring shortly before the servicing. I've been using Amsoil 20-50. Do you think my oil pump may be going south on me? My bike has a little over 30 K miles on it.

Thanks........

Most likely lifters, if you change them find a source for Gaterman lifters. Do not buy Harley lifters, they recently changed suppliers and the "C" revision lifters suck.

The starting of a header leak? I had one, thought it was a tap, went away when hot, was the header gasket.

Take a 3/8 piece of fuel line, about 2 ft long, stick one end in your ear, hunt the noise with the other, works great for isolating noises that make you nuts. Thats how I found the leak.

Skip, check for the obvious things first. Look for exhaust leaks (I use the lighter method), loose shields, etc. Do you have adjustable pushrods? If so it's a piece of cake to swap lifters.

+1 on the Chebbie.

Wasn't there some kind of guidance on this from the MoCo? Seems like they said they all do that. Really.
