What's the best way to tighten these? Noticed when I was waxing it that there is a little side-to-side movement where it is rivetted to the tour-pak and want to take care of it before I get any cracks. Dealer/indy to replace the rivets, or screws myself?

Well, I would use screws with acorn nuts and blue locktit to fix it. If the rivets came loose once, they probably will again.
With the Decker on top of you rack, you need them as tight as possible. I would avoid opening the Tourpak with your Decker on the rack to prevent ripping one of the hinges off. Definitely a weak point in the design.

Last time I checked 8-Ball, you did not have a tourpak, only a little red bag. Does the aluminum reinforcement help Mary or the red bag?
But, reinforcing the the side the tour pack would be a good idea.

This is the reason I don't have one... they are all pieces of shlt that crack and fall apart... designed for people who may ride 1,000 miles a year... The red bag will outlast any HD tourpak... trust me...
Of course, this doesn't mean I don't have compassion for those in need...

I have never had the pleasure of meeting Mary----I have however seen pictures. Based on my observations and the fact she has been to Texas I have concluded she is a fine lady of the highest standards and will take great exception with your comments with regard to reinforcements being required as a result of her.:badmood: :Poke:
Mary: I would like to apologize for the disrespect certain members of this forum have shown you and their total disregard for your feelings.
Now feel free to continue busting huveos ocho's baalz.:roflback:

A friend of mine has a new aftermarket tourpack that he got off of ebay for a little over $100. It seems to be stronger than the Harley version. and a whole lot cheaper!

It is stronger.... I have one. Unfortunately, the locking mechanism rusts
after 2 years to where turning with a key gets nearly impossible.

False alarm.
It was the heads on the hinge pin tapping, not the rivets.
All is well.
Thanks, though.

All that is a brace, replacing the cable? I don't think that will accomplish much. I like the idea of peice of aluminum bracing between the hinges.
One thing that may help, is I am very strict about not opening while bike is running. These things shake, ya know.
I have observed and thought about the comments of the EG tourpak. And most of them :BSflag: Tourpak don't crack unless you're throwing it open so the cable catches it. Or putting some overweight girl on the luggage rack. All is good. As for the Road King red bags....:roflback:
