The guy who built my bike put a wide glide front end on my 77 fx frame( i don't know if this will help). My front brake sticks. i'm thinking i will have to pull the piston and use very fine emery cloth to de burr it a bit. i will most likely have to put new seals in it too. My problem is i don't know what year caliper it is. Is there any way to tell?
Also my rear brake after sitting in the shed all winter has a spot ( huge) under the rear master cylinder. It looks like the fitting has a leak where it goes into the master cylinder. Should i just tighten this or??????
any help would be greatly appreciated on this.

Since your life depends on your brakes, I would say you should consider a total rebuild, front and rear. Pull the master cyl and take it to your local Indy... he should be able to ID it for you and get you the right seals. HD doesn't really change them much between models, just different years and a decent wrench will recognize what you got right away. Then get some new brake lines too and you should be all set to go.

i've always rebuilt my own in the past because i knew what i had(year etc)
the fu@*nod who built my bike forgot to advise of this.
both the local stealership and indy want to sell me the high grade ultra "arlen ness" type caliper. really don't want to spend the bucks on the RUB subculture "keep up with the jones' crowd".
rather do it myself.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.. I didn't mean for you to have the Indy do the work.... just ID the caliper... The key here is to buy the seals and needed supplies from the Indy. Try to get past the guy at the parts counter and talk to a wrench. They should be willing to ID your caliper if you are buying seals, fluid, lines, etc, from them. If they won't, then find a new Indy.

they thought my ride was a early 70's bike due to the caliper ....... not!
i only allow the head wrench do the work on my bike there.

The caliper could be an early 70's one... If you don't trust them, find a different Indy. You could also take a clear pic of the caliper and post here.. maybe someone can ID it.
