View Full Version : Thinking about a MI 43 Run on Sat 21st April

I'm in the Dertoit area and thinking of heading out early the 14th - or maybe late the 13th and spending the night somewhere. Starting from near Lansing or wherever the eastern-most end of 43 begins - and then heading west, making a big loop and returning with options...

IE - undecided on exact route, way points, and timing other than departure. Maybe catching the ferry from Ludington to IL and coming back through Chicago might be fun... whatever anyone might like to do. Or - just blasting out a good, quick run for the day, take some pix, have some lunch and meet some doofs. Totally open.

So -- all are invited - the more the merrier, open to any/all route and timing requirements. Rendezvous points, lunch stops, dinner stops, sights to see, all TBD.

All I know is unless the weather is bad - that's when I'm going and company would be great.

...and OBTW - yeah... call me a fair-weather doof. Getting caught in it is one thing. Knowingly heading out in it is another... been there, done that.

I’m starting a new project in Ann Arbor in a few days but will not be on site until the middle of May. Maybe we can hook up then for a ride.

Heck yeah. PM me anytime.

In fact, I'll be having a free weekend the 18th through the 22nd of May and was thinking of making a trip somewhere at that time. Thinking of heading up north for the w/e, but nothing firm yet.

FWIW, I'm in the STL area on occasion. Actually over at Scott AFB. Usually in for 3-4 days at a time. Got to spend about a week there sometime this summer and thinking of riding over.

If you do that then you could take the long way thru Chicago - IL43 baby!

I'd be willing to meet somewhere near the WI/IL state line and ride south with ya for awhile...

Are you bringing your skis?

I'll be snowed in, otherwise I'd ride down...maybe later on in the year we can all meet up somewheres.

I've been checking the weather and Saturday's been looking glum -- snow and rain.

This morning, it's saying cloudy and 41 degrees on Sat. in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo... so now it's looking like a possibility.

What do you guys say we make the call Friday noon and do an early ride out to 43, which is somewhere around Grand Rapids, I think. We can play it by ear from that point and either head back some other route or do a loop out to K'zoo and then back on secondary roads, or...

, If it's nasty, I'll postpone.

RRaymond -- I'm the same doof from N'ville... In case ya were wonderin'... you're definitely a doof!

Bofinn -- I'll be heading your way later in the summer and post about it. Do the same if you're ever headed this way.

CDouthitt,

My neighbor with one leg died and left his ski. His wife gave it to me and I can fedex it to you if you think you could mount it in place of your front tire and try to make it down. Probably could hook you up with a wheel once you got here. Hate to see you left out man... Bums me right out...

Thanks for thinking of me...instead I think I'll just make some snow angels with my Marx glasses on to pass the time.

Okay... it looks like a temps starting out at 31 and a high of 49... Think I'll wait a bit before covering any distance.

However, I'll be out and about if any local doofs want to meet up. PM.

Ok FXDRYDR, Yes I am a doof. Hey at least I have my real name as my login name so you knew it was me.....LOL.:Poke: Anyway, Gordie, you got my number so call me when your ready to ride. My bikes still in the shop unfortunately I've used a quart of oil on only 1000 miles after my build. The dealer ordered parts and will tear the engine apart sometime next week. [B]Hopefully[B] they'll be done with it by next weekend. BTW Motor City's little bash has been rescheduled to that Saturday the 21st. Maybe we can meet there for a free breakfast and head out from there. What do ya's think?

Hey Ray! I'm up for that. Now I just have to remember to put it in my calendar at the office. Glad I decided against a longer haul - it's 28 degrees!! Thinking about bundling up and heading to Brighton.

I'll tell you what - I've used my detachable windshield all of once - but on a cold day, there's nothing like it! Full face helmet, surplus cold-weather overpants and I'm downright toasty.

CD -

Well, I ran out to Brighton - 23 miles from home as the crow flies, mostly expressway. I bundled up well and moved right along. It was probably high 30s/low 40s ambient.

Tell ya what though - I was thoroughly chilled for a couple hours after returning. Nice to get in a little ride, but a steady diet of cold weather riding would be an acquired taste - and I'd be investing in heated gloves + longer winter over pants. My army surplus $20 set are great - just not quite long enough when sitting on the bike.

My hat's off to you, Berserker and all the other denizens of the great white north!

Tomorrow, I'm sayin' F-it, and goin' riding. We had a lot of snow melt today, so the roads should be pretty clear. What sucks, is that it is supposed to be gorgeous on Monday and Tuesday, and I won't be around...I've gotta travel to Chicago for work.
