I got to tell you guys.
My brother is a long standing member of this group, probably running onto 20 years now being clean and sober.
I have tremendous respect for the personal battle that you guys fight each and every day.
It ain't easy.
Not enough emoticon's out there yet, but my hat is off to each and every one of you!

Encouraging....thanks.
I began my journey into sobriety in Feb/1994. All was good until Aug/96 when my brother was knocked off his bike and died. I think I must have died right there with him cause I crawled back into the bottle AGAIN FOR 9 YEARS AND DIDNT COME OUT AGAIN until my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in Nov/2005. A month later at a doctors visit, I found out my diagnosis.
This November will be 2 years clean and sober and alive again for me. Who cud ask for more.

Thanks...I really appreciate the support but I (and others) don't always acknowledge it as fervently as we might...
This was told to me by someone with many more years sober than I, it's directed at rewards for sobriety. (chips, congrats...etc)
Being congratulated for stopping alcoholic drinking is like offering a pat on the back to a bull rider for not getting on the bull when the rider has hemorrhoids...

I want to thank all of you who are clean and sober and fight to stay that way everyday. I want to thank you on behalf of my wife and your children and loved ones. My wife came from a home where her dad never did get sober. He's been gone for almost 30 years but she is still paying for it to this day with baggage and torments she is still trying to rid herself of.
You have my prayers that the Lord will strengthen you in your effort. Not just for you but for you loved ones as well.

Thank you Scabby...whether we deserve credit or not, (we're a sick bunch of individuals!) it's nice to know our efforts are rewarded in some way...my guess is that with you life is much easier for your wife and for that you deserve credit, the life of an Adult Child Of an Alcoholic is often fraught with numerous trials, tribulations and emotional issues but with understanding, patience and a loving family (reads support network) leads a very happy and fulfilling life!

It's hard to take credit for saving your own azz.But thanks for the kind words Scabby.Perhaps some(I'm gonna hate myself for sayin' it) Alanon meetings could help you're wife to get some closure.

I'm sure a few here have sent prayers for your wife. It's the ones we harm along the way I feel the most for. It's to bad he didn't sober up but its not her fault it's ALL his and sadly she got in the way...damn I hate that.
