Supposed to be a pretty good time, Red Lodge is a nice spot and Beartooth pass is incredible.....

Last year was our first time there and we just did the Poker Ride.

I was there two years ago. Did an ironbutt ride on my Road Glide out there.

The Beartooth Highway was closed due to all of the slides from the previous winter they were still cleaning up.

Definitely had a good time, although that one place where the girls start shedding their clothes was like being in a sardine can.

Premier Riding Annual motorcycle rally has spectacular views

Pairing a motorcycle rally with breathtaking scenery has proved highly successful for Leo Wilson, owner Bone Daddy's Custom Cycles. Wilson began the Beartooth Rally 13 years ago, attracting less than 100 people for the poker run. Now one of the most popular events in Montana, the rally brings in excess of $3 million a year to the area, and is expected to attract 12,000 attendees in 2007.

"The Beartooth Highway is one of the premier riding spots in the United States," Wilson said. "It's the owner of Harley Davidson's favorite ride."

With national recognition and large amounts of advertising dollars from Budweiser, the event has outgrown the town. Last year attendees booked up Red Lodge, Cody, and many stayed in Billings.

"We have people from every state," Wilson said, mentioning that some of the bikers have chosen to come to the Beartooth Rally instead of Sturgis because of the high costs and large size of the South Dakota motorcycle rally. "Smaller rallies are just a lot of fun," Wilson said. "It is quite a sight to see Harleys lined all the way up and down Main Street."

Taking place July 20-22, the rally includes a golf tournament on Friday; poker runs and street dances on Friday and Saturday; and the Iron Horse bike rodeo on Sunday. Many of the local businesses will have separate events going on, and vendors will be selling merchandise.

Schedule of Events
The event kicks off Friday with a golf tournament at The Red Lodge Country Club Estates, beginning at 10 a.m.

Two Poker Runs are taking place this year; the first is the Bone Daddy's Bud Run, beginning on Friday. Sign-up will be from 11 a.m. Ð noon at Bone Daddy's Custom Cycles.

The main event, Highway 212 Poker Run, starts in Red Lodge Saturday, traveling up and through the Beartooth Pass into Cook City, looping back to Red Lodge through the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway Ð a total of approx 180 miles. Five stops are located on the route where rally-goers can pick up a playing card. At the end of the ride the participants with the three best hands share the $5,000 purse. Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. at Bone Daddy's Custom Cycle.

Sunday the Iron Horse Rodeo takes place. Events include men and women in the "slow race," barrel racing, potato race, obstacle course, keg roll, beer chug and weenie bite. $1,000 in cash and prizes is available. The rodeo begins at 1 p.m. at The Home of Champions Rodeo Grounds. For more information on the event call Bone Daddy's Custom Cycle at (888) 827-2663.

I haven't been to the rally, but Beartooth Hwy, Beartooth Pass, and Red Lodge is one highway that noone should miss. I was there in summer of 2006 on my way back from Alberta to Texas. Beartooth was certainly a highpoint on the trip. Montana is truly a great state. I sometimes find it very hard to take many pictures, I get so caught up in riding the twisties. Below are some of the ones that I took, though (click thumbnail pic to enlarge).

Ya' know folks were talking about the Chief Joseph and I regret missing it. I guess that's a great excuse to go back someday and do it all over again. :D

I have been out there the last two years, stayed for 2 days in Cooke City, Rode Beartooth and Chief Joseph highway, they are both awesome, but be prepared for anything, last year the last week in July we hit 108 degrees in Greybull heading to Cody, later that evening we hit sleet/rain on Chief Joseph highway. The year before on August 4th we had hard enough snow at the top of Beartooth to have to stop for a while. All that being said it is still my alltime favorite place to ride and just wish it wasn't so damn far from WI. If you get a chance to get to Cody, check out the Irma Motel, stayed there the year before last, they have a daily breakfast buffet and prime rib buffet in the evening, people say the old part of the Hotel is haunted, I tend to agree!!!

Beartooth is an incredible ride. Cheif Josef is good too, but I liked BT better.

Personally Yellowstone is one of my favorite places so far. Been there twice, 2nd time just passing through to BT.

Sure can be climate shock. You ride through the Black Hills, around 90-100 degrees, then get inthe higehr elevations where its 40 in the morning and 50-70 during the day.

The one year on Cheif Josef, we pulled over and put our hands on the engine. That is one of the coldest times I can remember. Not the coldest ride, but for so long.

The 212 is great, just watch the metal grate bridge crossing if it's foggy or raining. Hit it last year while it was wet, rear end kicked a little and made me pucker some.

You can grind your floor boards some on the corners and the view from the pass up top is breathtaking. It's like looking down on the entire world.
