View Full Version : I think I'm spoiled....

I look at some of the rest of your bikes and notice very few with a backrest. Is it because you guys don't like the look, the feel of having something in your back while your riding?
I installed the Corbin "O" backrest on my RK Custom and really liked having it there. Godzilla came with one and it doesn't come off.
I should get my new saddle tomorrow for the Street Glide, and shortly thereafter I will get a back rest.
I feel like I'm riding the bike instead of just holding on to the handlebars with the backrest in place.
Opinions??

First of all, yes, your spoiled, because you have three bikes. Me, I dont feel I need one, I have tremendess lower back strength:whistling: . I dont like the way they look on my bike(Heritage). When I have my wife with me she dosent mind at all when I lean back and use her as a back rest!

I have tried them on my bike, but never felt comfortable. I did not care for the look but wanted comfort on long trips. Made me feel like i was in school again getting yelled at for slouching. It felt a little too confined for me.
It does make very spirited driving easier to do though

I have a Mustang solo with a detachable back rest. People have sat on it and said it was like cheating. So I cheat most of the time.
Next step is the Wildones to get the bars back to me a bit.
After that comes an infrared rocket launcher to move obstacles out of the way and maybe a dilithium-crystal powered tractor beam.

I put the HD adjustable one on my last RG and it has stayed with me ever since. Way too comfortable to remove. Looks is not everything you know.

I have the Mustang setup on my RK Custom as well. Before this seat/backrest, the stock bars were uncomfortable and my hands would go numb holding on. All that is gone now. If that is cheating, so be it...don't plan on riding fair again...
I have a back rest. I usually only throw it on for trips over 200 miles. I don't have it in any pictures. But around town I typcially go without it.

Corbin and the biggest backrest I could find. Looks big and well, not so attractive, but I am very happy. Never bother to take it off.
One thing I found interesting....I had a sundowner with a backrest prior to the Corbin. Definately needed the backrest with the sundowner. With the Corbin, I find that I sit up straighter...ah, more straight, anyway, I don't lean back near as much and probably could have gotten away without the backrest. But, it is nice to change up riding positions at times.

Back rest on EG yes, back rest on Old Rigid mount Softail no.
EG is smooth and no vibration, Softail shakes and bothers my back, massage gets old after a few miles.
Who cares about looks, it is about riding in comfort and getting there feeling refreshed.
So if it is cheating, so are windshields, highway pegs, pull back bars, non stock seats, larger floorboards, and a host of other things that help make the ride more comfortable.
All I know is they work for me on the EG.

I had the HD adjustable backrest, but it pushed me forward. Got rid of it, and now I use this on overnighters:
I like it better than the tour pack because the load is over the rear wheel instead of behind it. Just my opinion.

Back rest here boss....
Newest member of the "I got a back rest Club" here. :D
Just bought and installed this weekend the HD Road King Custom style rest because it matched the stitching pattern on the passenger rest and not really sure if I like the ride.
It seems to tall and confining. If it was 3 inches shorter it would be a lot better probably.
It looks like you can't buy a lower rest without buying all the hardware for another $209.00

....can't stand to have it pushing in my back, got rid of it! I never could get the thing adjusted for comfort. Hell, I got the OL punching me in the back and that's tuff-enuff!!

No backrest here, cuz it would ruin my stylin'. :roflback:
And as Fernando always said, "It is far better to look good than to feel good."

Hmmmm...I've never had a back rest! I bet that actual back rests aren't as good as having some nice boobies to lean back against!! :boobies: :roflback:
I think a back rest would interfere with my "slouch" - another trait I share with GRLEGRL - further proof that she and I are twins separated at birth... :D

Not even close, Lady G, but the backrest was a LOT cheaper (at least for me).

It's a little too tight for a passenger without shimming the brackets to move it forward. So I just use it for solo rides. Between that, the Cruise Arms, and the Iso's with Throttle Rocker, you can almost go to sleep while riding.

Just to clarify, I only have two bikes. I mentioned the Road King because it was the first one I put a backrest on.
Personally, I go for functionality and then appearance. It's a close second, but it is second.

I've go the Mustang solo with detachable backrest and the only time I take it off is when my woman gets on back and insists I take it off because it's a little confining for her. Comfort is pretty high on my list though.

Even with all the other stuff that's broke on me, I haven't had any riding related back problems, so why make it look like a friggin' lead wing if I don't have to?

I have the exact same backrest as Luke and it's great. I find it's more helpful with the wind than anything. I don't use the windshield that much and the backrest really takes the strain off the arms. I have the same passenger issue, but I think I need to cut some more off of the bottom.
