...I am getting good at doing the Oil & Filter changes!

It's the clean up where I seem to have problems, I somehow spill oil out of the old filter, move the drain pan and manage to spill some of that oil, etc. etc. :badmood: Is there such a word as Doofoil? :Poke:

...so after 1/2 an hour of getting the oil changed, I spend another hour cleaning up my mess I made putting things away! :nope:

Well, it is done, no leaks, ready to wash it tomorrow ad off on a ride Saturday.

The local Motorcycle Awareness Rally, last year we had 750 bikes...

I'm changing oil tomorrow and finally figured out the perfect system after regularly depositing at least a 1/2 quart on the floor.

I've tried the oil filter box method, the liter bottle method, saran wrap method, and finally tried the ALUMINUM FOIL method.

The aluminum foil method works. Take a sheet and form it under the oil filter and then up behind the mounting flange. Run the sheet out from the oil filter toward the kickstand. Cup the foil as you approach the kicktand so it forms a trough that extends past the frame. Position a drip pan under this extended trough. Loosen the oil filter and pull it out over the foil. Any oil that spills out of the flange drips onto the foil and then flows through the trough and drops into the pan.

Screw the new filter on before removing the foil.

Not a drop on the floor last time.

I'll try to take pictures.

Next week tune in for gapping spark plugs...

Have a safe and great time at the rally.

This system works great, just be sure to form the foil correctly and under that flange. that is where I always get spillage...

take the box the new filter comes in, tear off the end flaps so your left with 4 sided box not top or bottom, on the seam where the box is glued together pull that seam apart... then you have a 2 1/2 or 3" wide 10 or 12" long piece of cardboard... fold it lengthwise where it forms a V trough, slide that under the old filter it will come out to just inside the floorboard... put the pan under it and do your thing. No muss no fuss... I mean it comes with the filter why waste time dragging out aluminum foil etc.

It makes a nice hat to protect your brain from aliens.

On a side note.. I did mine today, put the motor oil, gear case oil, and primary all in the same pan, set it under my little trough to pull the filter... did my filter change, refilled the motor, the tranny, got ready to fill the primary... decided that would be easier with the bike on the jack since that is filled from the left side... stick jack under it go to jacking it up... AAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH kickstand snags pan with about 5 1/2 quarts of all different oils in it and turns it over NICE HUGE HUGE oil mess after not spilling a drop draining it all.... oh well maybe next time :roflback: :roflback:

didn't think of that ... but I have a hat already made for that hanging on my hat rack so still wouldn't need to get out the roll of foil for it :roflback:

All kidding aside, (for a moment only) I do the same thing.

I've tried it all and have never had even a hint of success.

I am still of the opinion that the designer shoud be hung, tried, and shot.
