View Full Version : Replacing sliders for 02 EGC
OK- I need help -but thats another story. My question is: If I replace my 02 sliders for some 07s that I find on e-bay for a great price and I want to change out the side that has the cartridge to a conventional type what am I going to need? Do I have to buy that $400. special tool to get the springs back in? Do I need a Phd in Wrench twistin and Knuckle bustin?

If you're just changing the sliders, then you need nothing. The 07 and the 02 do NOT have cart front ends. Only 03 to 05 had them. Even if you had a cart, you don't go near it to do just the sliders. Get the book!
Geezer thanks for the reply. I have the book and it says I have a cartridge. Thats why I'm wondering what it takes to change over. Does the down tube have a different i.d.? Do I just toss the cartridge and replace with conv. spring?

<scratching my head> Could have sworn they were done away with......
Anyway, if you want to dump the cart (My recommendation) You have to replace the stanchion tube and all the inards. The sliders are the same. I have the list o' things you'll need. Email me if you want to swap it out, I'll send you the list.
You sure you have the cart? Maybe they put it back in....???? I dunno!!!!!!!!
Where you located?
Hey geeze I'm not sure of anything! Thats why I'm a lowly prospect. I just know the book sez I got one and until I take it apart I have to go with what I read in the book and on this site.(Oh man I just read what I wrote and scared the hell out of myself!) I just thought that since it was time to replace the fork oil and the front tire what the hey. What I have learned about working on these bikes is that there always seems to be an expensive tool to buy that you don't find out about until your half way torn down and I'm looking to avoid that and still get the job done.

Hey Geez... you should put up a thread detailing what is necessary to convert from a cartridge to springs only.
Jimi... I've got some info here: http://www.doofclenas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4486
It doesn't deal with the cartridge conversion, but it does go into detail on replacing the front springs and changing the oil.... it wasn't that bad at all.
I'd recommend a 1/2" torque wrench that can do 40 - 110 ft/lbs. minimum (forks and axles), a 13/16" crows foot, and a 1 3/8" fork cap bolt shallow socket... there is a link to it in my thread ($20). Obviously, you will also need a 3/8" torque wrench as well.
I'd get rid of the HD springs while you are in there... I went to Progressive.
