Lets just get this one out of the way...

Okay... lets hear your methods.

I say #0000 steel wool lubricated with WD-40 on warm pipes removes even the most stubborn plastic and rubber.

I was worried that it would scratch the chrome, but didn't. I work it slow, however... no digging.

A sharpened scrap of lexan. But you have to use special oriental polishing stones to get it just right. It takes hours of painstaking precision to get just the right edge.

Hi all.

Ok, Steel wool and carburetor cleaning spray works, BUT, don't spray it on the pipe, if it gets on the paint, it can ruin it.
Spray it onto the steel wool pad(Away from the bike) then scrub it on the area with the smuts.
You will want to wear gloves wile doing this, the chemicals can soak through your skin and hurt your liver and Kidneys.

SOS pads works great on cold pipes and all the other chrome too. Leaves the chrome real shiny and clean after rinsing all the blue stuff off with plenty of water.

No scratches.

Have used Goo Off on a good warm but not really hot pipe for a couple of moderate heel marks and plastic/rubber melts. Worked pretty good. They also have a BBQ Grill cleaner they claim is excellent for "baked on dirt and grease".

Oven cleaner worked for me, just warm the pipes up a little bit, takes melted boots right off. Didn't seem to affect the chrome at all.

I start the engine and as the pipe warms I use turtle wax brand chrome polish. Patti's boots and this method get along fine.

If anyone uses the oven cleaner method, make sure you rinse really, really, really well.......otherwise it's aaahhhh sh*t time.

I'll be damned, for many reasons.

Since Iput my fatcatr on,been getting brownswirl, fromthe rear pipes. Looks like crap, wasn't sure if from my jeans or bad chrome. Srape with windex, mothers, and never dulls until my fingers ached. Not much good.

Wet rag, and wt SOS pad, and 10 seconds it was off. Seriously just came right off. Hope when its dry in the morning I am this happy.

Been kinda bummed with the fat cat. I have never had a problem with my pipes before. The spot that is turning brown, is near my right leg, when holding bike up. oNly burned my self a few times, and not bad.

Not sure why this is turning brown. I do wear FRC, fire retardent clothes for work, I work with high voltage. Wondering this material is causing it. Kinda doubt, it feels normal, but never know. Will ride it this weekend see,

I've tried acetone, turpentine, and a number of other solvents, some of which only worked a little. I've stayed away from steel wool and anything abrasive.

I tried Easy-Off oven cleaner - spray it on, let it sit for an hour or so and wiped it right off - no more junk on the pipes. Works great! Put a piece of cardboard between the pipes and the engine/transmission to keep the over spray off.

So what you are saying is that you don't like the looks of the plastic WalMart bag (at highway speed) on my muffler?:roflback:

Colonial Brassy metal polish works great. It took off my wifes boot heel and a melted plastic bag without scratching the pipes. BTW does any one know how to remove oven cleaner overspray from a black powder coated engine:doh: ?

Easy off works well on chrome pipes, but I'm afraid it's stained your powder coat. Engine heat will bake it in. Looks like "rattle can hi-temp black" is in your future.

I put a piece of cardboard between the pipes and the engine/frame and spray with Easy Off. Come back an hour later and the stuff wipes right off.

yeah, shoe prints on the pipes can bum you out. I had one on mine for a while... I let some woman put her girl on my bike for a pic, I was watching, but she moved her foot down just a bit and oops... at least she didn't burn herself.
Really hard to be mad at her though, she was a cutie:

I had this same problem, but the girl was a bit older..Someone suggested I use 0000 Steel Wool Fine VERY Fine... get it wet the steel wool I mean. and gently rub it.. your pipes I mean.. worked for me.. took bout 5 mins of elbow grease.

If you use steel wool, generously apply windex, and keep them wet....

It will lubricate the chrome so the steel wool don't scratch.

But still take it easy, and don't rub too hard..

I've seen it in a couple Harley shops, but I ordered mine online. I just Googled "Road Rub" and there are several places that sell it. Pick the cheapest.

I used some 0000 steel wool on an area that Easy-Off didn't faze. I didn't pre-oil it, I was just gentle and it came right off.

Me likey.................. :)
