I got a new pair of pants for riding and wore them for the first time at the CloudRiders event. I thought I would share first impressions.
I'm not an ATGATT guy but wearing blue jeans while riding bugs me because I've seen an experieced how useless they are when they touch asphalt.
Big textile riding pants (which I have worn, but only for cold weather) are bulky and ugly and I can't really just kick back in them when not riding, I have to shuck them. Something in between these extremes is what I'm after and it appears that these riding jeans might be the answer:
They are Scorpion Covert Pro 'jeans'. They look just like your typical Wranglers boot-cut relaxed-fit jeans, and you can't *see* it, but they come with DuPont Kevlar lining, Velcro pockets for CE armor inserts AND they are not really denim.
The outer material looks exactly like denim cotton blue jean material but it isn't. The material is actually Cordura Nylon (far more abrasion resistant than denim) that is softer to the touch than new blue jeans.
Note the "Pro" is the Cordura version. The standard Covert jeans are a denim shell.
A couple of days riding in these with the optional knee armor pads in place~ I find them to be generally very comfortable except for some annoyance from the velcro for the knee armor pocket. The velcro used there is unnecessarily scratchy. I was wearing these as primary outerwear,not over other pants....Just these and the FoLs...

EDIT: I started writing this on Sunday evening and I was so tired that I fell asleep in the chair. Let's see if I can complete this now.

There are pockets inside these for the installation of knee and hip area armor padding. The armor pads are not included with the jeans but I did buy the armor for the knees.
The armor pockets are a very gauzy material and pose no problem, but the Velcro pieces that are sewn in can be a bit annoying. The "hard" part of the Velcro is facing the wrong way and is a bit rough on one spot on each knee.
If I was wearing them over pants, no doubt this would not have been a problem.
There are adjustments to locate the pads up or down (some) to match your height. I could not really get them in the 'ideal' placement for MY knees (they were just a bit low) but YMMV.
The sizing is done according to your waist size only and the jeans are built with extra long/tall legs and you are expected to hem them.
They were out of my size and I ordered the next up. This may account for the armor being a little low.
I did not hem them as I found that while sitting on the bike, they fit perfectly. When off the bike they're a bit baggy, but they look like just somewhat baggy jeans, no big deal.
With the armor pads in the knees, you can see their shape a bit, but again, nbd.
These are Cordura for the outer shell, with a Kelvar lining that goes from the waistband to below the knee. Below this, there is a mesh lining to help with ventilation.
The Lining is actual DuPont Kevlar, not a copy material and not a 'blend'. Real Kevlar is way better than any blend.
All the info I can find indicates that this stuff is very very good at resisting abrasion; almost as good as leather.
If you've never been through it, take my word, asphalt shreds denim and skin in the blink of the eye.
The impact protection of these pants is only mediocre compared to real leather riding suits, but far far better than jeans. Its a trade-off of comfort and style vs. protection.
The pants are heavy compared to Levi's in actual weight, but the Cordura and the Kevlar are so flexible that the fabric is very soft and comfortable.
They don't breathe as well as plain jeans but they were not hot to wear in our current moderate temps. Later in the summer may be a bit different, I'll let you know.
Why did I get them? A "just in case" thing, much like a helmet or jacket. It makes me feel reassured that I have at least abrasion protection were I to end up off the bike.
I don't want to go all ATGATT and I don't want to LOOK like Buzz Lightyear. So I've hit on these as a compromise that makes me feel reasonably protected while not appearing completely out of place.

SUMMARY:
PROs: I was surprised by the overall comfort of these pants. Completely UNlike my Buzz Lightyear textile/multi-layered/armored/lined ballistic riding pants, after the ride,
I can just wear these as I would Levi's, for around the house or going for burgers, whatever. I forget that I'm wearing them.
Very light compared to textile (or especially leather) riding pants.
Stylish. They look like normal jeans.
Stealth: No obvious doubled-knee or reinforced areas. No funky pocket placements, no one can tell that they are riding pants.
Cordura nylon shell should far outlast denim and should not fade.
Available in dark blue OR 'stone washed' finish.
Kevlar lining all around, not just certain areas.
Will accept knee and hip armor (CE rated)

CONs: expensive. $160 for a little peace of mind.
Bulky. Well not much, but compared to regular jeans, yeah.
Convenience: Machine wash but have to just air dry.
No attachment to your jacket is offered. I may add it.

Would I buy them again? Yes.
