Dreaded shifter seal
Elvis, my 2011 Road King Classic developed a leak that's drove me crazy for the last 2 years. Finally narrowed it down to the shifter seal.
Ugh. I don't know if I want to get into that in my garage. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
Removing everything in front of the seal and re-installing takes a lot more time than the seal replacement itself.

I don't know if I want to get into that. I've got too much going on right now. I think I'll risk carrying the Coors Light virus and take it to the dealer. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
When I went in to do mine I found it was the quad seal. Be sure to check that while you have apart.

So the quad seal seals the quad? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

#9 on that first one is the inner primary seal. I just replaced that one on my bike recently.
#14 on the second one is a snap ring, not a seal. I think you wanted this diagram. #14 maybe the seal your meaning? #24 is the shifter shaft seal https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche...0SIDE%20COVERS |
It’s just a little ice cream....

I had a leaking shifter shaft seal AND a leaking quad seal. Number 13 in the transmission gears tab
The bearing race can walk into the seal and cause a leak. |

That's what I was trying to go for... Sadly I too know the pain of a SSS leaking. |
I didn't feel like dealing with it right now. I cheated and took it to the dealer. All fixed for now.

So which seal was it?

Shifter shaft seal. Also had a rocker box leak on the rear, but the drip came from the shifter shaft
