A Concrete Decision

I have been wanting a shop building in the back yard for so many years.... I actually thought I was going to make it happen this year. I told the kids about the plan, the shop would be awesome, and everyone's Christmas was going to be a little light, but all for the cause.
Well, after looking all the costs and considering options and getting realistic about priorities....
I'm getting a driveway instead.
Yay.
Rassafrassajamminatdufritz.....

The driveway was once asphalt and has been derelict for years, crumbling faster by the day. Chronic drainage issues require a major redo so I finally had to do the responsible thing. But damnit I want a shop!

Oh well, it's all for the better; drainage, property value, resale, curb appeal.
I'm consoling myself like that.

The new driveway will be proper concrete-rebar-permits etc like God intended.

I'll just pout in the corner for a while.

Wow! Did you do the Bobcat work yourself?

The shop- can wait. I need somewhere to park my bike when I come visit

A man's palace can never have enough concrete.

Room for a basketball setup?

Dinero 12-16-2015 10:23 AM

That will be much better than the last time I was there (for a number of reasons). Are you extending the drive around the side of the house for potential future access?

My bike has been parked in that driveway a few times. I've also parked in worse..

Still, will be nice when it's done. Now if I could just get mine done.

I didn't do any of this, it's all turnkey... Which seems really weird, to an habitual d-i-y-er.
I do need to have another get-together here, some day.
I'd love to see y'alls bikes parked here again.
There's room for b-ball, but the angles might cause difficulty.
The drive along the north side is a future thought, related to the phantom shop building in my mind. Some prep for it is contained in all this.
Mike, you coulda had a drive, but you chose knees. I can't explain you.
I look forward to seeing your bike on the new drive.

Due to the house being lower than the street AND the city's mandate that the drive go *up before it go *down AND the need to drain water AWAY from the house, the driveway is a bit of a minor roller coaster I think the g-kids will love it.
In fact, I'm getting them new skateboards for Christmas!

It's now finished, it's going to be so awesome!

It's beautiful.

(I don't see my ashtray on the front porch anywhere.)

MrSurly 12-17-2015 11:06 PM

I'll bet we can conjure one up!

This place has slowly changed in many ways over the years. I need to find some of the old pics.... It looks a LOT different.

One of those $199.00 canvas car ports from Harbor Freight will make a good place to work out of the weather. It's only a temporary solution but it is cheap and flexible.

RoadWolf 12-18-2015 05:58 PM

I've been there!

Wasn't there some kind of built-in planter thingy at one time...?

Looks good.
