HELP ME! - Considering a Trailer

AAARGH!!, Officially got old and didn't even notice. I lived on my stripped down FXB Shovel for a whole lot of years, have the motor tattooed on my arm. Had a snide grin for all the people with their Ultra Loungers, I had one saddle bag on the right side and held the box of beer between my knee's and thought that saddlebag destroyed the bike's lines.

Then met my new wife, and sitting on my wallet on the back fender wasn't cutting it for her. Go shopping and buy a Glide, that bruised my ego pretty good, but quickly realized how nice the new scooters are...
Now we are sitting and discussing how much money we p*ss up against the wall every year on hotel rooms, and that my girl will not sleep with her ass at ground level. So doing the math, I figure out I can't afford another ex. Then I discover that Lees-ure Lite campers are made in Osoyoos just south of us:whistling:http://www.leesurelite.com/contactus.asp

I don't know how to make this stop, feels like I need to cut my foot off or something... Can't go back to 20yrs old, so I guess I have to learn to accept it  Sorry for rambling, she threw a suprise party for me last night, so a little half cut and reflective.

Price??

Me... I'd rather sleep in a hotel.

I've got no interest in a tent, camper or 5th wheel.

I figured for the cost of a camper, I can sleep in a King Size at the Holiday Inn Express a whole lotta nights.

But thats just me.

:DD

Dirk;

Sleeveless and I have done lots of traveling. Stayed in hotels, slept in tents, travel trailers, campers.. Just about everything short of a Motorhome.

We bought the Bushtec trailer to tow behind the bike with the intent of doing lots of camping. With about 10k miles towing and having the camping gear we have come to realize a few things.

1. While we love to camp, tenting on a bike sucks. If your traveling and tenting, your at the mercy of the dew point every morning when it comes time to put away the tent. It's usually covered with mositure and if you put it up, you either run the risk of mold/mildew, or getting everything else wet too.

2. There is no privacy in a tent. You hear every noise in the sites around you. If your at a biking event, then you also get the pleasure of the idiots coming back at 2 am blipping the throttle, and the others who just have to get in an argument sometime before sun up.

3. Camping in the rain really sucks.

Sleeveless and I have taken quite a few multi state trips towing the trailer with the intent of camping along the way. In reality, with rain and other issues, I doubt we set the tent up more than 40% of the time.

This last August on our trip to Maine, we realized we're done camping on the bike. From here on out, on the bike we'll stay in hotels. A few years down the road when we get our Toyhauler, then we'll do some camping again.

Good advice.

I thought about a trailer, decided to pass. I camp off a bike but generally we ride out, set up base camp, and do day trips. Running over the road and trying to get some real saddle time and sights in we motel it. Setting up camp every night and breaking down in the morning really cuts into your mileage and time in the saddle. But, I love to camp and fish, so If I am setting up residence in a national park for 5 or 6 days its a blast, if Im making a run to all 4 corners, not so and we motel it. Our AK run will be all motels and lodges for obvious reasons, there is nothing like a campfire and camp food, then there is a lot to be said for a hot shower, warm bed and toss the bag on the bike and go..

Even when carrying a tent and sleeping bag, it is all that and you also have to reserve a space, which makes you have to stick to a schedule. There are many more hotels than there are camping spots, if you travel during the week or register ahead of time, you can get rooms in the cheaper chains, motel 6 has a big book of motels, you can usually figure out where you want to stay by noon, so just call ahead - still a lot easier than trying to find a camping spot.

Just try camping somewhere off the highway, like in Easy Rider, if you don't get awakened before sunup, you will get eaten up by insects, maybe fire ants, or you could be in a snake area. You can't pitch a tent or put out a sleeping bag at a rest stop.

Did it, do it, will probably do it again, just one bad experience with a trooper, it ended good when we started talking shop.
