Tires 2021
so, whats the latest, greatest tires for Touring bikes nowadays...?
American Elites I think.
American Elite is high on my list, but I've been trying others as my bike seems to cup them regularily.
I've tried Michelin Commanders and currently trying the Metzeler Cruistech. I thought the Michelin's were better than these Metzeler's.. Probably going back to Elites if I don't give Avon's a try. When I was doing 20k a year, the elites I'd only have to change twice a season. The Avons don't last as long, but if I'm only averaging 10k a year now, then maybe that's not so bad. :whistling: |
Recent convert to the AEs, and so far they're fantastic.
Yes, they do work well.
I'm currently running the Avon Venoms ...... but will be needing new tires this year ...... based on what Russ says ..... I'm gonna give the AE a try out
The 'b' got a fresh set of AEs last September.
So far, so good. |
Have had two sets of E3's (believe they are comparable to Elites) on my Cross Country. Was very pleased with rideability and mileage. Put on a set of E4's near the end of last season and looking forward to see how they compare at the end of this season. As for cupping, I had cupping issues on my Deluxe with Metz 880's, Avons and my first set of E3's on the CC. Call 'em snake oil, call 'em what you want; Dyna Beads have minimized cupping with all three brands.

Just put a new AE on the front today. No cupping on the old one. Thing lasted for ever. I like em even better than the E3’s on the old bike.

Smart Dave has me on ME888s and I'm liking.them. 6k miles in and they're wearing like the E3s that went 13K on.the rear.
As soon as they stop giving me free tires, oops, I mean my tire and wheel warranty runs out I'm giving the AE's a shot
