Upper Midwest GBNF Memorial Ride, June 22.

d j and I got a chance to check some locations today for a GBNF Memorial Ride.

We've decided to host an upper Midwest GBNF Memorial Ride out of Guttenberg, IA.

Guttenberg is on the Mississippi River between Prairie du Chien, WI and Dubuque, IA.

There are a couple of motels in Guttenberg. We checked both and decided to base the ride out of Street's Eagle View Motel.

The motel is situated on a bluff just north of town on Hwy. 52 and has a fantastic view of the Mississippi River Valley.

The Eagle View is biker friendly and the rooms are nicely appointed. It's a well maintained facility.

d j's got some pics of the views which he'll post later.

Rooms are $70/night.

We suggest you book your rooms early if you're interested in riding with us as room availability is limited.

The roads in the area are top notch, very scenic, technical in spots and overlooks of the river are plentiful. Downtown Guttenberg is very nice and includes several restaurants and bars located directly on the river. Lock and Dam #10 are also located in town.

The main ride will be held June 22. Friday and Sunday will be travel days.

The phone number of the motel is 563-252-1653. Brian and Theresa are the owners, tell 'em you're with the Doofs!

We'll post up some tentative routes and stuff later on.

:DD

Oh yeah, we did see bald eagles today, too, at the river ferry landing opposite Cassville, WI. Pretty cool!

The proprietors are great. Motorcycle and Antique Tractor rider friendly.

The hotel itself is up on a bluff with unobstructed views of the river valley. Rooms are well kept and super clean. As far as mom and pops go, I would rate this as the best one we have ever visited.

The town is a really neat old Mississippi river town with some great restaurants and bars.

The roads and scenery in this area are second to none.

To remember Racindude, we want to revisit the Spam Museum on Saturday as this was the longest ride Dave took with the DC43.

We also plan on finding as many tasty roads as we can as the riding and scenery in this area are second to none.

Some other picys taken from Pikes Peak State park. This is where the Wisconsin river meets the Missippi river.

This.

And post up in this thread if you're coming.

If need be, rooms should be available at the Guttenberg Motel, but we'd like to get the Eagle View filled first.

Now, for the fun part.

A proposed SPAM loop.......

http://orbitorange.net/images/doofclenas/spamloop.jpg

It's approx. 305 miles long. Can go CW or CCW.

Two 43s, a 7 and a 41 are included.

<The Google Map Linky>

Most of this route will be twisty turny.......

:DD

Oh yeah, there's Harley shops in Dubuque, IA, Waukon, IA and La Crosse, WI, just in case.

Edit: Eliminated one gravel road in Clayton County, IA. The slight tweakage added three miles to the route. We're gonna run the Iowa River valley for a bit now.
