Do It Yourself Wrist Pin Circlip Insertion and Removal...
3/4" copper coupling and a 5/8 deep well socket.
Shove the circlip in the coupling then push it in place with the socket. Brilliant...! (compliments TXChop... he jacked it from somewhere) http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip01.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip02.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip03.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip04.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip05.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip06.jpeg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...Circlip07.jpeg |
(Borrowed a post from Springer... hope its okay)
To remove a piston pin clip.. Using a small pick or hook in a the groove on the piston, carefully hook the clip as shown below. http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/CirclipTool/deck6.jpg To install only requires a small flat blade screw driver. http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip1.jpg Place the clip at 6 and 12 O-clock. With the opening at 6, as shown. Insert the clip at one side and use your thumb to hold the other side. http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip2.jpg Press the clip as flat to the piston as you can, this makes it easier to work in. http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip3.jpg Using the screw driver, work the clip in as shown in the following sequence of pictures. http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip4.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip5.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip6.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip7.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip8.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...istonclip9.jpg http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...stonclip10.jpg Clip after install, seated all the way around and clip opening at 6 O-clock (Note: photo has been rotated to show gap location as mounted in the motor) http://www.doofclenas.com/misc/Circl...stonclip11.jpg |

Kudo's on the sticky, the 3/4" coupling trick worked slick - left the circlip cockeyed and started one end first in the piston, found that was easier than uber compressing by trying to turn it in the coupling.... the local stealer wrench gave a sly grin when I showed him, and mumbled something about "atta boy" but he had his service manager hovering....

Why don't we use simple teflon buttons?
Met a guy on a plane years ago, restored bikes from the teens... He used them, no chance of anything coming loose in those fragile old parts. |
