One of the 'Greatest Planes' flown by the 'Greatest Generation'.

I saw a couple of these still flying back in the mid-60's. An impressive airplane.

Most excellent.

I don't have a clue. The ONLY radial engine model number I can recall is "R1850"...... So I'll guess R1850s?? But I would imagine the 29 has really large three-row engines. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Great video!! Thanks for sharing.

Google-fu replies: R-3350; 2,800 horsepower (2,100 kW) at 2,600 rpm

IIRC were double stacked, one was behind the other, thus cooling issues. So four rows of radial cylinders.
For shits and giggles, one time I looked up how often changed and what kind of engine oil used in the F4U, I guess the best I could come up with is some amount of hours or after every mission. Remember, these were the days before detergent/ additive oils were in use. Also, if I read correctly, the heads are somehow screwed (or was it pressed?) onto the jugs. Does this now become an oil thread?... Sent from mobile device prone to spelling errors |
