He hasn't shown his face around here for a while.

Unless something has changed in the last couple of years, someone had to approve their 'application' before they are listed as "members".

Might be hacking right past that little feature though.

OK. The security we set up initially is still in place. We have a whole bunch of people who have TRIED to register, and when they do, they show up as new members. But I don't think anybody has gotten any PMs or anything from them, or seen any posts by them. They are sitting in a queue awaiting approval and unable to do, mostly, anything. There has been an email issue with the server for quite awhile that has actually prevented any APPROVED new members from receiving their registration codes anyway. That's been sporadically looked at, but Psychoholic hasn't come up with a solution yet.

Anyway, I've temporarily disabled new registrations, and will go slowly through and get rid of the bogus ones. Hopefully, by the time I get that cleaned up, Psychoholic will have a workaround for the email, and we can process legitimate new members.

If anybody has been pestered by, or seen posts from this recent wave of vermin, please post up here and I'll see whats up.

And it looks like they are putting contact info (AIM, ICQ, Skype, and website URLs) in their profiles. That's probably the motivation. To get their scam websites more exposure.

I've removed that ability for their usergroup, so they should lose interest pretty quickly.

IP banned a big chunk. This is gonna take a while...

Spam / hack "attacks" via the internet, I liken to when punks used to creep around in the dark of night to break off your car antenna.

Now they don't even have to leave the safety of mommy's basement.
