Upgraded the Fireplace....

So after 14yrs of looking at that tired old painted brick and tearing thru far too much of my precious, sweat soaked fir firewood I broke down...
Everyone around these parts is doing the ledge stone thing, so I went with fieldstone plus our house ain't new and I thought it suited more. Dang happy but of course there is the mission creep factor, middle of the month my finishing carpenter is here. Two bookcase units with a firewood bin and possibly a scraped hardwood floor. Still have to see if I can get my head around the sticker shock of that flooring...... Dirk |
Nice work Dirk - looks great!!

I like that.
I have the same painted brick fireplace but I'm just going to let the next guy worry about it. |

Looks great! It will really add to the value of your home. The cabinets and flooring will make it even better.

Gots the red oak plywood and a board to rip for trim caps and found our flooring.
The look we where after and in vinyl (nice and Jaeger durable) with a sweet underlay attached to each board, Home Depot no less! The cost of true scraped hardwood was breathtaking, just couldn't justify it. Cabinet dude is here momentarily..... Dirk |
Looks great. Keep us updated on the rest of the project.

Getting closer.......
The firewood run was a two day affair, made me tired. A pint glass of vodka on ice and a couple Alleve fixes all. Dirk |

That's beautiful! Enough to make you look forward to winter.. or at least not dread it quite so much. ;)

Trim work scares me, so a very stressful afternoon
Check out the beautiful smoke filtered light coming thru the window, that's 1:30 in the afternoon - what a mess this summer has been. Auto will final fill, I'll pull the shelves so the mason can do his work on the wall tomorrow, then wet sand with 1500 & mineral spirits and final varnish Up next the flooring and base, oh goody......
