Yep, they wait till you are close before getting, slowly, airborne.
On the way home tonight there was a flock of them at the dead deer buffet on the right shoulder.
I went into the other lane to give them wide berth.
But little did I know, they were cleared for takeoff into / across that lane.
I'm very glad they didn't regurgitate their payload onto the car.
