Sounds like you're spending s few dollars on engine parts... I'll spring for your burger to get you some relief.
Grab a telescoping magnet and scour the can chest for itty bitty bearing bits and pull the pump apart.

The stock lifters are notorious for roller fails.
I can't believe the cam isn't scored.
I really can't believe that you didn't swap 'em during your previous cam install (wagging finger gif) .

What brand of lifters are you going back with? I used the Woods Directionals, but "anything but stock" seems to be the popular choice.
