We have a 4 buzzard rule here.
If there are just a couple, slow down and they avoid you. If there are a larger bunch feeding on a large carcass, they tend to avoid each other first and can fly in any direction.
A survival mechanism kicks in to help them get airborne and as a defensive measure. They regurgitate to lighten the load and if they get you---you will head for the nearest creek if you have any sense at all.
