@@&*&%* Check Engine Light saga (long)

Having some big fun here with my 2010 Street Glide. Installed a set of Klockwerks Ergo back bars last year and decided not to remove the dreaded "green connector" and solder the wires. Bike ran fine for several months and a few thousand miles. A month or so ago the check engine light came on with the codes P1510, P2127, P2138. The codes reset but would reappear periodically. I wasn't experiencing any runability issues until a couple of weeks ago. Pulled the twist grip sensor back out and removed the "green connector" and soldered the connections. Reset the codes and all seemed well for a couple of weeks. Went ahead and ordered a new twist grip sensor with the longer wires and no green connector to get away from the problem P/N 32310-08. Same codes, same issues so the bike will be heading to the local dealership for some warranty / extended warranty work.

I can already hear it, "they all do that when you change the bars".

I hope there is a sharp cookie there that has read factory bulletins and knows what causes it and how to make it right.

I get so fed up with the factory shop shotgun method.

Had one of the cruisers with a failed P/S rack, they replaced it and then it started getting difficult to steer, they called a failed P/S pump, I'm thinking it's the rebuilt P/S rack POS.

So OK replace the pump, wrong...

Now they have used the side by side and replaced both now.

Update on the saga, bike is still at the shop, tech has been working to sort it out. So far three different twist grip sensors and a throttle body have been on the bike plus countless hours ohming the harness. Tech spoke with the mothership and MOCO is taking an interesting slant from what was related to me. Seems they are of the opinion that owners are adding zip ties where there shouldn't be any and binding the harness and causing broken wires.

I pointed out I had only replaced ties in locations they already existed when working on the bike. The tech is now armed with some new suggestions from MOCO on where to look so it will be interesting to see how it works out now.

Careful where you add zip ties, the cheap ass wire in your bike could break....

But did you use Harley Screaming Chicken Wire Ties?

In the correct wrap direction and cut the excess off with official, only the dealer can buy them, diagonal (Dikes) cutters?

In the correct torque pattern . . .?

Not on Sunday or Monday and not during Lunch hour?

There was this engineer (not his fault) who sat in a corner with a new computer back in the 80's, and with the guide of OHM's law, started working how much weight and money could be saved by using only the size of wire and terminals needed to barely send the electrical current to it's destination (static). The wiring harnesses and wiring terminals used in today's motorized vehicles are not adequate for long term use and are destined to fail. The "G" forces around an engine can be nearly 40 times, and the pin terminals and low grade wiring don't stand a chance at longevity. Electrical problems are the worst plague of todays vehicles. Oh yeah, it takes 6-8 weeks to get a new wiring harness from the parts department as production logistics have none for aftermarket. Genius? Coming soon will be stepper motors replacing the wiring harness that will work off high frequency waves. More genius?
