ZUMO Question
I am about to buy a Zumo 660 from a member on another forum.
I know that the 660 is the non-XM version of the 665. I know that is long in the tooth and the newer models are the 390 and the 550. From you guys in the know, is the 660 still a good unit, or seriously outdated? Are the new models significantly better? OK, really only asking about the 550 'cause the 390 is too tiny for my old eyes. I'm looking at 300 bux plus I'll need to get the mount that was left on his bike. Any input while I can still back out?

Honestly, I have used my smart phone for just about every navigation and business search needed. The only time I see the benefit of a separate GPS unit is when I csn't get a cell signal, like on Arkansas 16 last week when we all were low on gas.

Yeah, there's that. Natchez Trace is 400 miles of no cell and no visible gas...
I have a "car" GPS on the bike and it saved me (us) on the trace by finding gas while the phones were blank. The old Nuvi is broken so a new one is needed. The other reasons for a Zumo over a phone: A.) Rainproof (phone failure point on the same trip) and 43.) glove-usable touch screen and D.) larger display.

Yups, Hwy 16 was a signal-less treat. The only consolation is normally one cannot go 20-25 miles in any direction without running into fuel. I see the value in going GPS.
On another note, my phone sufficed in my 20 state western tour. If the price is right, and maps can still be updated. I heard most are updatable BOB

Well, I've backed out of that specific deal because the missing cable bits would cost an additional 60 bux.... And I've found that the 660 can be had online brand new for 350(!) with lifetime maps.
So now, in my normal "bracket-creep" form, I'm seeing what deals there are on the 665...

Probably smart to back out.
FWIW the 660 is supposed to be a rock solid unit. I sold my 660 that came with my CVO to my BIL and he has had NO problems with it. My 665 has had a few weird issues, but only with the Sena 20s unit. otherwise it's great.

Dan, is it accurate that the sole difference is the inclusion of the XM radio?
I have XM on the bike right now, using Sena parts to get it to the headset... does the 660 have the SD slot and music player?

Ricky
I've been using the 660 on the Orange Crush for several years, it's a rock solid unit with lifetime maps. Water/shock proof, which is what did in my Nuvi on the bike SD card, I don't no, never had a need for it ...music, I 'seem' to recall that you can load music in it, you can also make your own routes on google maps and load them into the unit I don't recall if it connects directly to the sena headset, but I seem to recall that it does... I get confused between the new/old bike :-o it transports easily from the bike to the car, no, you don't have to take the mount off the bike to do this ... the unit comes with a mount for the bike and the car it has good battery life if you wish to take it off the vehicle and carry it around while strolling about I know a lot of peeps are using phones for everything, but as mention when you need a nav signal a lot of the places we find ourself the cell sig in not present ... trade off is, you don't have all the functions the smart phone has, but you have all the nav stuff you need, where is: gas/food/motel/hospital/police ..... but you can't look up reviews :-) what'd I forget ? oh, when I bought it the price was $650 !!!

One of the most useful features of the 665 is the weather maps. Many times routes were changed because of what was along the intended route. That costs a couple dollars a month more, but well worth it. XM radio in the middle of nowhere is really cool

I have a deal working on a 665
I have XM now and love it. Searching for radio stations and hearing them fade is so old school, you know. I currently have to use an SM10 to link it up but using the 665, it might be simpler, BT wise. Then there's the idea that I could make the one XM account 'portable' by moving the unit to the truck versus two accounts.... BT I probably wouldn't actually do that. P.S. You mentioned micro SD cards... now wouldn't it be something, if I could take the card from a video cam and play it back on the GPS?!? THAT would be so cool... I might at the least be able to do a still shot (jpg) and review it in the GPS to check framing and such. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
