I've heard this conversion runs about $700 to $1,000...

That's what I've heard as well. I think some of this could be found on the cheap if you're patient. Carbs and mainifolds might be one place to save with someones take-offs.

Another place might be a salvage yard for wiring harnesses, fuel valves, choke assemblies, horn mounts and such.

I've thought about it also, Warren. I think you and I once discussed it. I was thinking about offering to trade a carb guy and throw in the SERT.

I am just curious when I ask, but are you guys that fed up with the efi systems that you would consider going to a carb? What benefits do you see? I have often wished I would have gone with EFI vs carb, but with a carb, I can see what I am doing without any electronics.

EFI has been expensive for me. Difficult to find anyone who can tune it right. Sensor issues, erratic idle situations and sensor failures. When I bought it, they had one the same color with a carb and I chose the injected one.

My WG is carbed and trouble free.

I've had no problem so far with my EFI. Only have 7800 miles on it. I've been told by an indie friend of mine in Harrisburg that EFI goes bad after about 10k miles. Beside tuning, has anyone had problems with them failing? I like the way EFI starts on cold mornings - she tends to stall once or twice till warm, but otherwise runs great.

20k on mine, no failures. It should never stall when cold.

A little over 15 on mine and no failures. It starts and runs well.

Tuning after putting in new engine components was time consuming because of the components I chose.

1BdBagr has failed to amuse us
My 2000 RKC has the crappy MM (magnetti morelli) EFI system and i've been accumulating parts for a switch over when i go 95" /cams/head work etc. I hear it's a bitch to keep this system in tune when you alter other things in the system. Not to mention i also hear you'll gain about 10 HP in the long run. And no downloads & unnecessary dyno runs!!! I can't wait.

Why have most PDs used FI bikes? Once they are tuned, they work great. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! This is the biggest problem, people trying to modify it. Leave it alone, have it SERT dynoed, you will be fine, up to 120 hp.

Only 6k but I really like my EFI. Its not tuned 100%, just canned map, which when I get soem $ will be tuned right. I wonder if some guys are just to sensitive.

I do have concerns about having more things that can fail. My carbed bike is the bike I plan on keeping. The Ultra is one I will probably sell around 50-70kmiles. Though I have trouble parting with things.
