Since the place seems to die after 11, I figure this thread will be a place for me to talk to myself.

I'm not sure why I'm up, but it's becoming a habit.

You'll never talk alone after midnight as long as I am around. I do my best work between eight in the evening and four in the morning and check in here periodically to take a break. I have been a confirmed night owl since I was a leetle gurl and I love being in a position where I can keep my own hours. Getting up at dawn is for those damned little birds that sit outside my window and chirp at ungodly hours.

Which brings me to the following, which alas I cannot claim as my own work:

I woke early one morning
The Earth lay cool and still
When suddenly a tiny bird
Perched on my window sill,

He sang a song so lovely
So carefree and gay,
That slowly all my troubles
Began to slip away

He sang of far-off places
Of Laughter and fun,
It seemed very trilling,
Brought up the morning sun.

I stirred beneath the covers
Crept slowly out of bed,
And gently lowered the window
And crushed its f*cking head

I didn't see that one coming.

My only problem is that I still have to work at 8 AM.

That really sucks. Had many many years of that situation; may someday have to return to it, but for now I am a happy night owl.

Of course, about the time of his sixtieth birthday, Mr. Margarita became an early morning person, albeit against his will. Alas, the dear man who used to speak reverently of "the God-given hour of 10:00 a.m." now falls asleep at 10:00 p.m. and is wide awake at a quarter till six every morning. The good thing about it is he does the morning horses chores without complaint, bless his heart. And if we arrange our schedules carefully so that he wakes up an hour early and I go to bed an hour late, we have sufficient time to frolic together before the horses need to be fed.

Married life is so sweet after the first thirty years or so, don't you think?
