Going to the Dunlop E-III's for Ole Red

The Michlens are shot out after this last road trip, rear is really bad and worn square with a lot of cupping, turns suck when I lay into it.

I have found out that the 160 will fit my 04 bagger, 04 and up they supposidly slide right in. I know the 140 looks lost up there in that big fender and lots of room to spare between the belt. That should help out a lot! I'll post up when they are on.

If you have a 3.5" rear rim, you aren't going to like the 160, which is designed for a 4" rim.

Here's what they told me:

For the tire size 160/80-16, the optimum wheel width is 3.75".
The acceptable wheel width range is 3.50" - 4.50". Therefore, a 160/80-16
tire size should NOT be mounted on a 3.50 x 16" wheel. Correct rim width
is critical to handling and stability. A tire which is installed on a
wider than recommended rim will have a flattened profile and a rider may
easily reach the edge of the tread during cornering. A narrow rim will
alter the tire profile, concentrating tire wear in a very small area during
cornering, with a smaller contact patch during braking.

So I asked them once again,

WHY there is no 150/80 B16 tire available in the E3 line?

Their reply?

We decided to not offer that tire size in that particular model.

LaFawnda feels squishy in the rear end in the twistys... I'm going to research other options next time.



My recommendation would be to find the right size, I think they have the MU90B16, which IIRC is a 140.

Just my 2 cents, and it prolly ain't worth that much.

I just put the E-3's on the RK, went with the MU90 on the rear, cause I couldnt find anyone who had put the 160 on an 05................................................ .................................................. ............................much better tires!

The stock D402 MU85B16 is 25.71 tall and 5.51 wide. The E3 MU90B16 is 25.72 tall and 5.57 wide. I'm running the E3 and I like it.

The E3 160 is 26.10/6.10 and Dunlop does say it's for 3.5" rims only. It may fit in the hole, but I elected not go with what may end up being a less safe tire after I stuff it onto a too narrow rim.

...I just replaced my rear, went with an AVON VENOM.

Liked them on my Dyna Wide Glide, liked the one I wore out, pretty even wera patern and pretty good mileage.
