Cyco Gaskets replacement timing chain tensioner shoes
I am preparing to do my tensioners on my 06' TC, and curious to know if anyone might have used Cyco Gaskets replacement timing chain tensioner shoes. The product looks good and has been tested.
I'm seriously considering going this route; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Twin-...3739e9&vxp=mtr 5 (weird) replacement shoes and a set up tool for $79.96. Discuss: and thanks for your input! BOB

Never heard of them.
Have you thought about the roller chain conversion for your bike? It may help with extending the life of the tensioners. No forever, but not as quickly deteriorated as originals either. I went gear drive on the 05, so it didn't matter.

If I had the spring type tensioners I would definitely be looking at gear driven cams. Short of that the roller chain conversion has had good reviews. I wouldn't cheap out on a part that can grenade your motor

Not familiar with the Cyco stuff. I did the roller chain "late model conversion" and like it a lot. And besides, the "while you're in there..." factor rules. Cams, man. Jus' sayin'
A search will reveal several discussions

Everyone I have talked to here (there are a BUNCH of us here at work that ride) has either converted to gear drive (the best solution, by far) or gone over to the roller chain setup.
Not a single one has stayed with the old style tensioner setup. That speaks VERY loudly, IMHO.

And...
Knowledge that the old style will go 40 K 'ish +/- If you don't have the funds for gear conversion or roller chain, might as well stick with the silent chain setup. My 02˘…

"If" you have no more than .003 runout, "AND" you don't mind a little gear whine, then gear driven is the best option.
If not, then it's the roller chain or OEM replacements. Budget plays a huge part too.

I stayed with stock setup on two bikes. I have not seen the excessive wear others have.
That said I haven't gone beyond 30 or 40k without changing them. |

It's either the shoes which I'm not afraid to do, or stock spring units. Here is a link to the shoe replacement part: http://www.harleydavidsontensioner.com/
I would rather do any of the above. Not that I'm cheap, but budget is foremost at this time for me. I'm not afraid of working on anything. That being said, I have 72K+ on my original 8 year old tensioners. Good thing I'm breaking it open next week. I'm just now hearing a bit of extra noise, so I parked it. I still owe just a bit on this scoot, and when the house sells, I'll have funds for a nice full build and will have one mighty motor to play with. BOB
