If I Was Rentin'

I'd be ridin'

But no, instead I'm *still* working on part if a project that's way way old and not quite finished.

I wanted granite trim for my granite shower but of course, you can't just run down to Lowes for that. I needed essentially granite 1x2s, 8' long.
The local rock monger offered to custom build them for me... Apparently using a Trump Plaza pricing sheet for the estimate.

Stymied by the cost, I settled for wood trim. Hated it. Tried some metal trim. Hated it more.
I want granite, damnit, but not a bunch of small pieces, one whole piece to get the result I want.

I decided to do it myself (natch).
I bought a slab cut of Absolute Black granite, used a diamond blade on my Skilsaw and wet-cut some strips. Now, the finishing process. Wet grinding with diamond discs. It actually DOES work, but there are far too many steps. You can't get away with skipping grits, either.

These pics show a raw cut, a finished polish and one in between.

I bitch, but it's actually pretty satisfying to get something "custom" .....

finished.

Good for you Ricky.

It's good that you have the patience and skill to do all that.

Looks nice!

I would have probably hung a shower curtain over it and called it good.

That siding could use a bit of a touch up next.
