So, when I got my 2014 Limited, I also got the dealers paperwork. OOPS.
$7,000, or close enough, markup and another 1,000 prep fee. Given the current state of things, I think that is too much. Hell, it was too much then. So, what's fair but not retail? The bikes come in on a skid, air tires, check oil, put on windshield, add some gas.... $7,000 profit on what was 26k, that's steep. So, what say the Doofs?

I just saw something lately that said dealer cost was $6500 below retail.

I’m of the opinion that it makes not one bit of difference to me, what the dealer’s cost is.
I would not care if he made a dime or a mint. What possible difference does it make to the buyer? Are you the arbiter of the seller’s margin? Have you decided that a dealer is entitled to X percent, and not a penny more? If so, stick around for the quiz, later. Let’s say the selling price to you is lower at dealer “A” compared to dealer “B” who wants a thousand more.....but you learn that dealer “B” * makes less profit* (because of his sales low volume, his cost is much higher). Are you going to pay more at dealer B because he made less off of you? Seriously, think about the implications of that thought process. The ONLY thing that matters (assuming service and etc are the same both places) is the price you have to pay. Why would anyone give a rat’s patootie what the seller’s cost is? If a dealer gets in dire straits and decides to sell old inventory at a loss.... are you going to pay him *extra* to make sure he makes the amount of profit to which you previously decided he was entitled? Uhm, no. You are going to pay as little as possible after shopping and comparing **prices** not margins. Sorry, I got triggered Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Now doing the egg can be an issue if the boss wants it done like a scrambled patty.

Personally, I do believe that on this amount, about $5000 is a good margin, and a reasonable prep cost. Don't want them broke, but also don't want to pay a mortgage in one go.
