Promise to miss me...

... and I'll tell y'all about camping in New Mexico when I get home next week. We're spending three days in the high desert outside Santa Fe. Leaving the bikes behind (alas) but riding through the Rockies that far is beyond me at this moment. We leave tomorrow "early" my husband says. I might mention that when we travel together, we never manage to get out of town before what he calls "the God-given hour of ten o'clock." He believes in a leisurely start to vacations. I want to put as much distance between me and reality as fast as possible. This is the first vacation we've had alone together since my parents took the kids to Arkansas and we went to Mesa Verde in 2000. Now one of those kids has two kids of his own and the other is on her way Saturday to be a wrangler at a lodge about five miles from Yellowstone.

See y'all when we get back.

Are you back yet?

It seems like you have been gone a long time.

Got home tonight after a twelve hour drive from Taos through some of the most beautiful country on the face of the earth. My husband crashed hours ago, but I drank so much caffeine today that I'm liable to still be awake this time tomorrow.

We had a wonderful time. Perfect weather, great spiritual experience at the Long Dance, reconnected with my husband who is one HELL of a fine person, saw old friends, met some new ones, scared up a bear, spent a day in Santa Fe sightseeing. I'm afraid I didn't take a single picture, though I carried that damn camera all over the place. I get interested in what I'm doing and seeing and forget to take pictures.

Came home to an empty house. My daughter left Saturday for her job wrangling horses and dudes near Yellowstone. Her seventeenth birthday was yesterday, but I called her the night before since the lodge doesn't have cell phone reception. She spent the weekend with her brother and family in Cody. Seems very quiet here right now with just Roy and me, but my girl chick will be home in a couple of weeks to participate in the college rodeo finals before heading back to her job. She's a lot busier than I was at seventeen.

Hoped to ride my pretty new bike tomorrow, but we came home to pouring rain. Sigh. Well, I need to catch my horse and bring her into the barn anyway- maybe she'll be a little more cooperative about leaving the pasture in a downpour.

Yeah, especially since it was our first trip alone since July 2000. I'd forgotten exactly how much I like this guy.
