The case will come back clean. I've already cleaned the oil filter housing and crankcase oil hoses. Already cleaned oil pan. I'm installing new piston jets. All that's left is oil pump, camplate, cams, cam bearings, pushrods and lifters.

Also went with a new oil pump. Going to try the Cyco tensioner shoes this time around. Always had decent wear on the OEM, but this time they had pits in them.

Got the crankcase and primary side installed today. Getting old sucks.

I've been chasing

Went with KB Pistons this time around.

The wrist pin bore intersects the oil ring lands and that requires the installation of an oil ring support rail. The support rail is made from spring steel like the oil scrapers.

Before installation the ends of the support ring overlap each other about 1/4". When installed the ID grips the piston to help keep it positioned. It's purpose is to close off or become the land at the wrist pin.

That little sucker is a MOFO TO INSTALL without damage to the piston or rail.

Probably would have finished it up this weekend, but the oil rings are the wrong ones. Gap measures .219 and the stack height of the rings is .260

I've been chasing

Fired it up Wednesday evening. Got a few heat cycles in.

It was a bit noisy, but that settled down after a bit

Not sure yet on the noise I was chasing, but it sure is smoother running.

Got 80 miles between rain drops this afternoon.

Impressions are it's definitely smoother/quieter. Throttle response is more crisp, power may be up just a bit.

Oil pressure is up 6-7# at cruise and 5# idle.

So far so good.
