Google Earth - Highway 43 & 7 Locations
Since 8-Ball was gracious enough to add the .KMZ phile extension to the upload list, and since I've been spending some time playing with it, I thought I would upload phor everyone the locations of the 43 & 7 signs I've ridden to.
These are phor use in Google earth, and I have included some notes as to clarify the exact locations of these signs. Enjoy EDIT: Latest phile - 10-27-2008 Anyone can build a custom list of points in Google earth, then when created exist only on their Google Earth maps. You can then share/post them to the greater Google Earth community, or you can email them to phriends. Here's how you do it! 1st you need to locate your location. You can do this by searching phor a nearby town. Then you use the navigation tools to get to the exact location. You can also use your mouse, and mouse wheel to zoom in on an area, or "pan" to it. Once you've gotten to the location of the sign, click the "Add Placemark" button It will set a default pushpin marker at the center of your current view. You can then move it with your mouse to be exactly where you want. Once you've set it, right click on it, and select properties. There you can modify the placemark, and add notes to the placemark to better help identify the location. I chose to use green push pins phor 43 locations, and purple ones phor 7 locations. Once you have added your location to the map, a new marker will show up the the "Places" section of the Google Earth sidebar under the "My Places" tree. You can create your own pholders to organize your locations, and drag & drop the locations into these pholders. If you would like to share your locations, right click on a pholder to share a group of them, or an individual placemark to share just it. The "Share / Post" option will attempt to add the placemark(s) to the greater Google Earth community. The email option will send a .KMZ phile to the person of your choice, who can then "Open" that phile to add it to their Google Earth places or post it here. PIN STYLE AND COLOR INSTRUCTIONS: To select and edit your push pin (keeps them all the same on the map) 1. Click on your added location on the left. This will select/hightlight your location. 2. In the "Edit" menu, select "Get Info". This will bring up the following window where you can add a description of your location and select the pin color. Click on the pin icon to open the pin color window. 3. For a 43 pin, clear custom icons first, then click on the green push pin, this should change the pin to the default 1.1 size. If it doesn't, enter 1.1 and and click the "OK" button. 4. For a 7 pin, same as step 3, except click the purple push pin.

Cool...
I found the 43 south of Artesia last week and put an interactive map link in your 43 locations post. We are planning to hit it on the way to ES.... only about 15 miles our of the way. When you download the kmz file, does a .html get added to the file name? It does when I download it and can't figure out why. |

when I open phreaks file with my google earth it left my route I have planned for ES in place. pretty neat, looks like everyone could use google earth place a pin on the their particular known roads, then send that someone (the keeper of the map) who could then update their google earth with the new pinmarks, post that saved copy then anybody could go get that latest copy and have the latest additions... pretty neat stuff.

Phreak... are you going to be keeper of the map?
Can folks add their locations and post their .kmz file, then you add it to your map? You could keep an updated map in post #1 here and we can stick it. What do you think? |
